I can't remember what thread it was in, but @ZapBrannigan mentioned something to the effect of shutting the other guy down for the rest of the trip by stepping on his toes. I think that's why many just sit in silence while the other guy gets all wacky-doo.
 
I dunno, isn't there a respectful way of confronting someone? It doesn't always have to be pistols at dawn. I love using passive aggressive sarcasm as my shot across the bow. Before I go to step two and it might get uncomfortable.

These people continue to pull this crap, because they get away with it. Because no one stands up to them.On some conscious or unconscious level I think that they want to be challenged. After that they respect you more. Or less, or not at all.

I admit that maybe this is a problem that I have, but I am unable to, just sit on my feelings. I just gotta let them out. I'm a Cancer.

I remember a mentor explaining to me why so many of the nutjobs with tin foil hats make it through an entire career without being confronted. It was because so many of their FOs just get through those 3 or 4 days thinking they'll just keep quiet and then never have to see the guy again. Over time the Captain gets crazier and crazier until by the time he retires he has buried a school bus in the yard and is stockpiling ammo and Spam.

I totally get it. If I were flying with Derg and he was being a wiener, I wouldn't TELL him he was being a wiener. I would just not fly with Derg again. Easy peasy.

(Well, unless he was saying inappropriate things to the FAs. That is my "do not cross" line. I'm not getting fired because you haven't learned how to treat women in the workplace you perverted malcontent)

Otherwise... just as with vape-dude this week. Cooperate and graduate. Is it going to get me killed, fired, or make a lot of smoke? No? Then I keep quiet and vent on the internet later. [emoji106]

Entitlement and enabling are a disease. I see people in my job a lot, mainly because of the decisions they made because they were enabled by their parents/family since childhood and now have no sense of right or wrong. Or care for others feelings.

You're right when you say that, they're this way because no one wants to confront them. Because they just want to make it through the trip without any headaches. Definitely pick your battles which is something really hard for me to do, but it's something that I'm learning.

But I firmly believe that people treat you the way that you allow them. If you allow them to disrespect you and get away with it they will. It creates a pattern of disrespect that just grows and those who are entitled keep trying to test boundaries to see what more that they can get away with until they get their hand slapped.

Don't allow people to disrespect you. Stop it cold immediately.

Maybe it's the Marine in me, or the fact that I've decided at this stage of my life to be an ass if I have to. One of the reasons I had to upgrade was that I refused to bite my tongue anymore when flying with a d-bag, either in the left seat or right.

Let's just say that after going full nuclear mode at 30W, the flight for me got better. But then, I suspect I'm like @Maximillian_Jenius, in that I like passive aggressive sarcasm and making asshats feel uncomfortable.

Growing up my mom always used to say. You can tell someone off with sugar and honey. If that doesn't work, get ghetto. Because some people just won't respect or understand nice. And being direct is all that they know or understand. I live by that.

Obviously their only source of income aren't tips. However, it is customary and proper to tip the van driver. You know it, they know it. If they want to ensure they receive tips, then it's on them to ensure they've got the extra cash to make change. Hell, back in the day when Cruise was a wee lad, I waited tables. You bet your ass (you can totally say ass) I brought enough cash to work to make change.

I did have a copilot think I was mean because I assumed he was a flight attendant because he wasn't wearing any visible uniform.

I don't know. Here's only a 20% probability that you're the other pilot when they're all effectively wearing white shirts, no tie and a Northface coat in the crew van.

Four flight attendants, two pilots, I know who I am but:

1 potential pilot out of 5 remaining crew members: (1/5)*100 = 20% so if you're that sensitive, well, dress out for gym.

Look I get that keeping the peace is a thing, and it's a delicate matter but... There is an art to this people skills thing that you need to learn and if you don't correct bad behavior in a nice way, they'll eventually get to someone who's not gonna be as nice about it... you're actually doing them a favor by being honest and direct in an nice way. Start out by talking about what went well.. then work from there.
Or just beat them with a rolled up USA today, whatever works for ya.
