Steve O1?

Well, if you don't like the free videos on YouTube, you can set your Hot Tub Time Machine for 1987 and pay $30 a pop for the "Wonderful World of Flying" on VHS.

PS: those too are available on YouTube. Pretty cool blast from the past.
Those videos may be the cause of my man crush on Barry Schiff.

I think back in '87 it was still ABC's Wide World of Flying.

If you can't do something smart, do something right

I remember those days....when everyone thought the downturn in general aviation was just temporary....

I wonder how many of these guys like MrAviation101 and steveo1kinevo have end-game goals to work at the airlines, and if so, how they're going to handle becoming just another cog in the machine.

Steveo1Kinevo has stated at least in the past that he's not interested in airline flying. Can't say I blame him, it looks like he has a nice gig.

It's a pretty common line. Some probably really mean it, but I suspect most who utter it do so precisely because they are not currently flying for an airline.

Sure some. But watching his videos and having sent him an email or two I don't think this applies to him. (He's got Saab 340 time by the way.) Watch a few of his videos and he's clearly a capable pilot (and good dude). Unless he has some crazy DWI record I don't know of, he could be at any number of airlines right now.

If you look at his earlier videos it appears he already did the airline gig. He talks frequently about how much he enjoys doing what he does now and his QOL. He also flies Caravans for some outfit going to the Bahamas. I really enjoy his videos, along with Premier 1, Capt. Moonbeam and a few others.

By the way, here is the Youtube channel of the girl in the video in the OP. : )

After this thread pointed me to him, I've watched a few stevo1 videos. Although I really like the production value, I can't get past his Blues-Clues-esque interaction with the viewing audience...

"So how have you guys been this week?"
....pause for a few seconds, as if hearing viewers say something....
"Oh, that's great to hear!"

Pretty sure Premier 1 used to fly -16's, awesome channel he has going. As for Captain Moonbeam, he is so goofy but for whatever reason his videos are enjoyable.

Yeah, P1 did. I was referring to Steveo about the airline gig and Caravans to the Bahamas.

Well, thanks to this thread, I've had a lot of wonderful YouTube aviation content to watch while sitting reserve this month and not flying very much.

Never thought I'd say that I got anything close to my "airplane fix" from watching videos, but some of these are quite well done, despite whatever personal and flying technique quirks they might have.

I just had no idea that guys were out there making this many videos with such high production value. Definitely a massive improvement from the (seemingly recent) days where most aviation videos were unproduced iPhone and GoPro clips.

Just a wild guess, but if a guy in south Florida has Saab 340 time he probably was with Silver, or it's predecessor Gulfstream Air/ Academy.

There are a ton of Caravans in the area that go to the Bahamas. Both wheeled/ amphibious as 91 & 135 airplanes.

The tail numbers of the airplanes in his vids support that.
Flying Vans to the Bahamas is a fun job. Reasonably challenging, reasonably rewarding.
I enjoyed doing it part 91 out of MCO. If the pay is good, I can kind of see why one would stick to it.

I can't imagine the corrosion issues with amphib floats down there. Honey bunches of nope.

It's easy. Lots of grease and lube, frequent replacement of wheel bearings and other hardware, wash it every flight, replace the occasional skin, new paint every three years...

Which is cool if you're into that. Me I'd be perfectly happy if I never had to deal with amphibs in salt water again.

Is there a waiver to the "remain within gliding distance of land" for 135 if you have the floats on?
I did one 135 ride-along to the Bahamas in straight Van and basically said "thanks, I'll stay on the 91 side of things"

It's right there in 135.183...
No person may operate a land aircraft carrying passengers over water unless—

(a) It is operated at an altitude that allows it to reach land in the case of engine failure;
Also note that cargo aircraft are exempt from the gliding distance requirement.
