Really JetBlue? REEEEAAAAALLLLYYYYY??????

I want JBU to expand just because given the option I will fly them over any other US airlines that I've flown, and I've got a lot of friends in the ATL area and would much prefer a JBU E190/A320 over the DAL CRJ or MD88 I always seem to get stuck on.

And that's why JB will make money with the ATL.

I doubt it. This is the second time that JB has tried this. The first time, Delta just flooded the market with seats, undercut JB's margin, and drove them out.
Wasn't there mention on the latest ask Ed that we will be expanding service in BOS too? I would guess there will be more flights that way. I still firmly believe they won't even notice.

Increase competition is exactly what they'll notice. The 4 primary US carriers are frequently asked at quarterly earnings calls about low cost competition at their hub airports (ORD...IAH...etc). While it represents a limited number of seats the pricing power pressures the carrier that basically owns the market.

DL's pricing power on a route like ATL-BOS will decline. No bueno for them.

@Cptnchia your recollection of events is correct, but your last sentence proves @Baronman's point exactly. Flooding a market with seats will erode pricing power in that market, no way around it - fares for both carriers will be lower than otherwise precisely because of the newly added seats. Last time Delta simply stomached it until JetBlue flinched, and pricing was restored after JetBlue's exit - we'll see if this attempt is any different.

I love JetBlue.png

Flew JetBlue to LAX yesterday ... they don't seem to mind sharing the dumpy Allegiant/Frontier/Spirit terminal there.
