-51F in McGrath today

Alaska Dispatch News (ADN) is reporting Interior temps between -47 and -51. I was in Minto a couple of days ago, when it was -36, and that was plenty cold, but -51 would be just miserable.

I assure you it is.
My record is -65 or there about in Allakaket.
-65F! Yikes. I think I would have turned down that flight. The soda would have been frozen solid before the village agent could get it to the store.

Around the same time, in Aniktuvik I offloaded a flat of pop, which had been beside the wing heater. Once it hit the -40 temps it instantly exploded. I almost had to deice the Coke slushy on the wing.

Heater quit more than a few times. As a nice Alaska send off, my last leg (January 30th) the heater quit heading back to Fairbanks.

I really, really don't miss those parts of the job.

something something climate change global warming something something.....

Meanwhile somewhere near Portland Or a foot and a half of snow fell in most areas of the metro area.

1 week of freezing temps in Houston Texas, (although Hell and Houston both start with an "H", coincidence? I think not)

something something climate change blah blah global warming blah blah.....

Do you think these climate changes are a natural cycle our planet goes through or do you think that we are arrogant enough to claim responsibilty and try to reverse it because it's not in our best interest? In my mind both arguments are valid, and useless. If global warming has started it will be followed by another ice age, and in my opinion there isn't anything we can do about it. The best we can do is try to survive.

I'm with you. I don't believe that man is the root cause and I have a number of friends at NOAA who say the same thing. I had a friend (a neighbor actually) who was a climate scientist back 1998 tell me we were entering into a period of instability. He described it as the effect of throwing a rock into a pond. He didn't know how long the instability period was going to last but it was part of the natural cycle of planetary climate. So if back in 1998 he could tell me that over a beer at a block party I am willing to bet a lot of the hulla balu that is being rammed down our throats recently is pure poppy cock to push an agenda beyond getting hit in the head by a piece of the sky falling.

Sir, your house is on fire.
Nah, it's cool bro, my drunk buddy who built a campfire one time says I'm good.
But sir, we are the fire department. We know fire and study fire, and recognize it when we see it.
Nah, my buddy said so, I'm good.

Dude, the fact that that shiz is making news should alarm us. 20 years ago -50 was an every winter occurrence in the Alaska interior and just part of life.

Yeah, the analogy is more like.

I think my house is on fire.
My drunk buddy, who is a fireman and builds houses for a living, who is also not drunk goes and looks at my house. Checks the ALL walls and floors for heat sources. Uses a specially designed tool to read temperatures in all surfaces of the house. Comes back and hands me a beer and says "naw you're cool, and so is your house".

Your reading comprehension is pretty poor too. Said "drinking buddy" is a "Climate Scientist". Worked for both NASA and NOAA doing climate science. Has a PHD in climate science (actually I think it was specifically Atmospheric science).

I'm not saying there are not noticeable changes (hence my post about over a foot of snow in Portlandia), there most certainly are. But I am told by the very people who do this sort of stuff for a living say this is a natural event and was expected. And that the doom and gloom being thrown around by the liberals is just not valid long term.

But add to that right down the road from me is the NOAA Marine Operations Center Pacific. Got a few friends there too. They all say the same thing. Climate change is a natural event.

Yep, and as pointed out above we are having temps -50 this year too. And likely as that pond analogy I mentioned above continues we will see the same thing on going as the climate does what it is designed to do, which specifically is "Change". I'd be more worried about the coming ice age......

The nice thing about opinions is that they aren't facts.
