Clamp force, Bose and Lightspeed

Y'all,

I started flying with a Bose A20 and I love, love, love the ANR characteristics. My QT Halos are good, but simply outclassed by the Bose in terms of noise reduction.

My only gripe with the Bose is the clamping force - head feels like it's been in a vise after a couple of hours.

I'm wondering if the Zulu2 is more comfortable?

Any of you have experience with both?
 
You looking to sell your Halo? I'm a Zulu 2 user looking to lighten the load in my bag and I just got an email from the guy at QT saying it will be another 4 weeks before he can take an order.

I've never used the A20, but as for the Zulu2, I've never had any issues at all with clamping force on my head even after 12 straight hours in the plane, and I don't have a small noggin. Quiet and comfortable and with good audio quality is my opinion.
 
I have Zulu 1s and feel the pressure being very light, but I'm surprised by your post, to me the Bose were the ones with less clamping ? I guess it depends on the shape of your head....

I'm not looking to sell the Halos. Just looking at some alternatives.
 
Anyone using the DC One-X ANR? I tried them on at Oshkosh and they were pretty comfortable.
 
I guess I'm fortunate that I spent an entire military career wearing a helmet in the cockpit. I have never had an issue with this so-called "clamp force" when wearing a headset (my former daily wearer was a DC H10-60 and my current is a Bose X). They all feel light and free to me.

I picked up a pair for Christmas. Probably have close to 10 hours on them so far. This is my first ANR headset so I don't have anything to compare to other than a few Bose and Lightspeed I've quickly thrown on in passing. I was using DC H10-13.4 for years before. Overall, I really like them. I haven't had them on for any extended x/c yet, longest so far has been 2 hours. I didn't have any clamp/pinch issues, but I may have become immune after years of wearing old DC's. If you're having issues with clamping on the A20 the One-X will probably be similar for you. The seal is great, doesn't break if you turn your head or move your jaw. Good overall feel, smaller size feels lightweight to me. They fold up and stow nicely. Bluetooth is a new feature I'm enjoying. Pairing is as simple as hitting the Bluetooth button. Audio quality is great and transmissions through mike are clear. Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase. I was faithful to DC and their longevity. Paid $895, roughly $200 cheaper than Bose.
 
I have a pair of Zulu 1s and 2s. I can fly a 4 hour leg in the Bonanza wearing either and never even notice them. I did try on the A20s, and noticed they pinched a little, but I chalked that up to the oversized melon that rests on my neck.

No complaints on the LS, except that the plastic parts degrade and start shedding a flakey slime after a couple years.

Getting an Oregon aero upgrade helps a lot of that. Still get the weird dead skin stuff from the battery case though.
 
I have a pair for A10's and Zulu 2's, I always found the Zulus to have a much softer clamping force then the A10s. But I used the A10s at my pervious airline because they took up less space in my flight kit. I also found that the Zulus were better in piston aircraft, though I haven't used the A20s to compair.
*note I have about 2000hrs using each of them.
 
Started my professional career on David Clamps, even wore them for a year into my turbine job before I decided to spring for the A20. I love everything about that headset. I like the fact that it presses firm on my head but isn't uncomfortable at all, the ANR, and the Bluetooth.
