How I would like to be in the era of the radials, the supercharged V12s and jam-happy cannons.
In those days they'd be designed and put in service in 3 years, kill and get killed a lot.
Just a dream, nothing to see here. Move along please.
I'm always amazed when I look back to the era of the century-series fighters.
We'd design, build, and field supersonic fighters only to have them last a couple years in the inventory.
On the flight sciences side, they'd be fast as snot, then completely depart controlled flight with the wrong inputs.
I'm not into fighters, but for me that sounds like "Let's upgrade the avionics of the Super Connie and we have the perfect 787 replacement."
I love watching everyone flip a poop at the first word he says on a subject. He's obviously using his pulpit to evoke certain results. And his end goal is usually nothing similar to the actual initial statements on the topic. He may not be someone I'd invite over to eat my ham on Christmas, but he is certainly not dumb.I'm sure it is, but I'm not sure who is presenting the false dichotomy, here. All that I see is President Cheeto making Lockheed sweat (and you know there are some well-clothed asses sweating...even with the billions already bilked there are a lot of snouts lined up at the trough, and the spigot wasn't supposed to be turned off for a long time yet.). He's made no commitments, and frankly with the great weight of Generals poised in his cabinet, I have a hard time imagining that he hasn't heard just what you're saying. But this is one spot where his terrifying unpredictability becomes an asset. He probably won't cancel...but he might. And the piggies at the top can't take that chance.
To me the false dichotomy seems to be "Well yeah, you taxpayers got royally molested again, but if you in any way question or push back against your molestation, it automatically means the program is cancelled and your kids will grow up speaking Russian."
The hell with three years, the P-51 went from concept to rollout in 102 days with nothing but human ingenuity and slide rules...How I would like to be in the era of the radials, the supercharged V12s and jam-happy cannons.

If only somebody could jump on here and describe the EW capabilities of the F-35...or F-22 for that matter.Yes.

In a couple of weeks, Trump will be briefed about the capabilities of the F-35 and he will probably tweet, "the F-35 is awesome, we need it, I'll try to get the taxpayers a better deal".

It's funny seeing something like that when without fail in any number of these type of threads, those of us with knowledge in classified arenas has to hear dismissive blubbering by those who don't have it on why we don't back up our claims.
I'm positing that that could be exactly what President Cheeto is doing right now. God, I can't believe I'm defending this maniac...well, I'm not, I'm just proposing that he MIGHT be doing something a bit more clever than flushing the whole thing down the toilet in a fit of pique.
Put it this way: You don't walk in to a negotiation saying "Well we really have to have this thing and there's no way we can afford to cancel it now, but I'll try to get the price down".
disagreeYes.
