Escape from SLC

So, we made it out of MSP; thanks to the hard work of the ground crew and flight crew. We arrived in SLC and Delta didn't have a plane to fly to ASE. I feel
Like I'm in that Seinfeld episode where he talks about taking a reservation vs keeping a reservation. Apparently, delta is trying to get a plane from Spokane to SLC to make up the shortfall. This means we depart at 2000 instead of 1700.

ASE is predicting 2sm and snow from 1800-2200 hrs. Is that land-able by a CRJ-7? Or, should I go and rent a car?

I thought Asprin was a daytime only airport?

Never mind... I just checked the curfew requirements.
:)

2sm is not enough visibility to dispatch to Aspen. The approach requires 2 and 3/4sm. It's that time of year. Lots of cancellations and diversions into Aspen today.

By the way, all Aspen commercial airline flights are done by SkyWest Airlines or Envoy. All of the Delta and United flights, and about half of the American flights to Aspen are operated by SkyWest.

I'm glad I have the day off today :)

You really don't want to do that drive, it'll be solid 7-8 hour drive this time of year.

And next time, just stay in SLC and ski the Cottonwoods.

No, luckily it was legit below mins "illegal to try" rather than "near mins there's almost no way we will actually get in but if you want to go fly super close to some mountains in clouds for a while, fine, great idea!"

Sounds like they need more Alaska pilots. Below mins? Cancel IFR and git 'er done.

Rifle is appreciably better.

Guess where I am.

You probably already know this, but if you are tired of omelettes served by waitresses with holsters on their hips, head over to Glenwood Springs. Some cool restaurants and history there.

Haha. I think I actually wrote that from the Residence in Glenwood. Using "Rifle" loosely, here. As in all values of "Rifle" = "Glenwood"!

Glenwood is awesome. The entire town's water supply is on spring water also the beer is amazing mostly due to this. I'd always rather sit at Glenwood than ASE.
