Why is CFIT dangerous?

17) The vast majority of controlled flight into terrain (CFIT) accidents are fatal because of high impact forces.
True.
False.

...That is my favorite question from the flight instructor renewal exam lol.

Lol not a trick question. I guessed True and I was correct.

I figured it'd be some technical trick question. "While high impact is a contributing factor, CFIT accidents are fatal due to the brain accelerating through the brain case" Or something like that..

It's a strange question because it implies that there's a statistic on the matter somewhere.

Nevertheless, it's a pretty straightforward "true" answer, but we know about pretty straightforward answers don't we?

Huh? Wait. Can you repeat the question?

See the NTSB docket for the Chalk Oceans crash, Comair 5191, and UPS 1354 at BHM for the human factors injuries report. Extreme graphic detail that one wishes no one would publish and read. But it is their job and they do it well.

No, thank you. After an internship with the NTSB, several classes with "Wild Bill" Waldock, and some other stuff, I have seen, heard, amd read enough "graphic detail" to last a lifetime...
