trump/ATC Privitization/User Fees

Looks like user fees are FINALLY coming under the new administration...

Nothing in either article said anything about user fees. The subject of both was moving ATC from the FAA to a congressionally-chartered non-profit corporation.

Seems to me that would result in less oversight, more lobbying, and most likely higher costs for everyone involved.

Privatizing (how it's operated) and user fees (how it's funded) are two separate issues. The way I read it, the President-Elect is in favor of having some form of public-private partnership that operates the ATC system and rolls out new technology.

One of the steps after privatization itself would most likely be the user fees.

Has to be paid for some how!

Airlines already pay more to use the system than other operators. If we bring those other operators up in what they pay, it wouldn't be a higher cost for everyone.

Congress. They have the power to override any Executive Order they want to.
"If Congress does not like what the executive branch is doing, it has two main options. First, it may rewrite or amend a previous law, or spell it out in greater detail how the Executive Branch must act. Of course, the President has the right to veto the bill if he disagrees with it, so, in practice, a 2/3 majority if often required to override an Executive Order."

Not likely with Republican control of both houses.

I would think that a person who has relied extensively on "other operators," like the President-Elect, may not favor shifting costs from the current model.

The Secret Service is subsidizing his airplanes now, what does he care?

I think he has strong interests in the financial outcomes of his business partners. It's not like the TrumpJet will sit on the ramp these next four years.

Bigger picture, I think America's corporate leadership is more than happy to keep the burden of ATC costs on the airlines.

I think Trump doesn't have a single damn opinion on the privatization of ATC. This was Shuster saying that Trump says this, which Trump probably told him to humor him while they were on the campaign trail. Not to mention Shuster is the definition of lobbyist corruption. I mean hell he's dating the airline lobbyist who is working for privatization. His last bill got shot down by both sides last year, hopefully it gets shot down again next time he tries to bring it up.

Can't wait to have everyone paying their fair share to use the system.
Privatization is the answer? What government run operation turned private has been a success story? What makes you think things will get better with this? Will safety take a backseat? These are some questions that you don't have the answers to but I would like to have them answered before any decision is made.

This will only cause issues at the light piston GA level. Maybe the lowest "scumbag" level of 91/135. Which in turn will just make the pilot shortage worse.

A good thing for the paycheck of those already in the game.

Not so good for aspiring pilots.

I think in the end it will just creat another layer of fees and fines. Maybe a few years of out of control privatized enforcement of rules we haven't seen enforced for decades like 250 below 10k, 200 below B airspace etc.

Again if you are already in the game working at a solid 121 this is a good thing. I could see the scumbag 135/91 outfits trying to pass on the fines/fees to pilots. Retribution for picking up a IFR clearance etc.

When I crossed the pond and went to Scotland, England, Ireland etc they asked us if we wanted "deconfliction service" AKA flight following. Charged us a bunch of money when we got home. Expect the same here and for operators to be VFRing around in marginal conditions.
