American Airlines shows future Aviator around PHX base

Psh. There was a fella from another Air Line that picked a kid up at his house and flew with him to WHQ for a tour.

Yes, there was. Organized entirely by a PR department because of an appearance on a big TV show. This one was just a few ground guys taking notice of a kid genuinely interested in planespotting that empowered themselves to make that weekly tradition just a tad more special. They are both cool. But this one, was different.

You know what Trump would say? "WWRRRROOOOOOHNG" :)

You really have no idea what transpired to make that video happen, trust me.

The fact is, if he had never been one of the kids featured on Kimmel, he would have never gotten a tour? Or was it a set up by DL to put him on Kimmel?

The story is like this. This guy goes aggro on the Jimmy Kimmel show. On his own volition because he's a uber airline enthusiast. He seriously has reams of statistical data sitting in his basement.

The video goes viral on campus.

We reached out to the show to figure out who the parents were so we could say thanks.

The mother said, "Well, if you just sent him a t-shirt or something, he'd really appreciate it"

Then one division said, "Hey, lets send him a model". Another division said, "Throw in some personalized wings in the box!" and so on and so on and so on leading up to lets bring them down to Atlanta. Nah, lets surprise the kid and pick him up with the concurrence of his parents.

It really wasn't a PR stunt at all. Gotta remember @Avgirl, I'm the guy in the video.

You don't know what you're talking about.

There was no connection between Delta and Harris before he said what he said.

Zero zilch nada none.

He was doing a site visit in LA because his father was directing a film. The mother had taken him and his sister to tour Hollywood and The Jimmy Kimmel show happened to be filming a "Man on the Street" segment and he was pretty darned hilarious, especially for a 11 year old.

Have you seen the whole clip?

Here it is. He's at 2:32

If that was a plant, it must be RIGGED! It's a grand CONSPIRACY! I'll neva eva BIGLY accept it! And Mexico's gonna pay for it!

I wasn't saying it was rigged, I was saying that the kid wouldn't have gotten the tour without the appearance and met the likes of you. Am I wrong? If that episode didn't exist, he would still be a DL fan, but in the shadows? ;)

I think it's cool, and your protege is amazing, but he got the tour because of the clip. I love the questions he asked that they put in the video. Very smart. But still a kid with the sister fight.

Good grief I'm not playing "Internet Green Eggs and Ham" with you, I'm not even hungry! :)

He got great PR for Delta otherwise it wouldn't have been a video shared. It's not a bad thing, everyone does it. If a waiver had to be signed, it's PR. But, anyway, you got to meet an amazingly smart kid and interact with a lot of great people at Delta helping foster that passion into whatever Aviation dreams he has for the future. Not a bad thing. I shared it on the FB page when it came out because it was so cool.

I think what our internet star is saying is that the effort was more organic than you believe, and that the PR folks jumped on the bandwagon to make a video out of it. Smart.
AA could have done the same thing, instead we have awkward over the shoulder shaky cam affiliate news station footage showing the America West engine shop

Yeah, but it was great that it showed the local PHX folks. Instead of turning it into a big production and losing that charm. I wish the DL video would have shown the brainstorming about what to do for that kid. I bet it would have added a nice element to it.

Staaaaahp, just stop! :)

It's ok. Wait until you're in your 40's when not actually knowing something is blissful and not panic-worthy.
I don't get it. Why 40's? I'm in my late 20's and am VERY happy and content not knowing anything. "Where's..." "I don't know."

"How do you..."

"I don't know"

"When..."

"Let me stop you right there. I don't know any answers to any of the questions you're about to ask."

Every time you see a camera, there's a plan to use the footage. The camera was a last minute thing like literally two days before the thing went down and a good month of this thing moving from a low boil to a raging brushfire.

When you film virtually anything, there are a lot of people involved. You're fitted for an on-person microphone, there is a boom mic or three, hell the sound crew alone is five people. Then there's the film few and their assistants. Set up, tear down. There's a of stuff that goes on.

Now if they were to film all of the lead-up to the big day when me, the producer and the NY camera crew and sound people showed up, that's a lot of people standing around some cubicle thinking, "Hmm, I'll just send him the jet from my desk. Yeaaaaaah, that's what I'll do" then you know it staged.

I literally had landed in PHX from working an event in Madrid for marketing and my boss, of sorts, puts me on a conference call and says "Sorry, we need to send you to NY, watch this video and we'll send you some basic information the morning before you fly out in a couple days".

So I did laundry, packed my crap, flew to ATL and met with the director of social media with some information about what was going on and continued up to Albany then was limo'd literally to what seemed like a hotel in the middle of nowhere.

Everything was live, unscripted and a little awkward because, well, it was cine verité. No retakes, no clarifications, no voiceovers, it was about as real as it could get. The only thing we did twice was the 'hero walk' down the street.

I'm not so sure Han Solo does it for the PR...
