This happened at MHK...right there at Ft Riley? Really? I don't k know if this was a factor, but they only have ERJ service and that looks like a big puppy.

Yeah this seems a little unbelievable. Maybe overblown? I don't know...hard to imagine.

From AA.com:

Emotional support or psychiatric service animals

To travel with an emotional support or psychiatric service animal in the cabin you must provide supporting documentation dated within 1 year of your scheduled flight. It must be from a licensed mental health professional or a medical doctor and state:

That you have a mental or emotional disability recognized in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fourth Edition (DSM IV)
That you need the emotional support or psychiatric service animal as an accommodation for air travel and/or for activity at your destination
That the individual providing the assessment is a licensed mental health professional or medical doctor, and you are under his or her professional care
The date and type of the mental health professional or medical doctor's license and the state or other jurisdiction where it was issued
You’ll also need to contact American Reservations at least 48 hours before your flight and submit the required documentation.

If we’re unable to validate your documentation or if you didn’t notify us at least 48 hours before your flight, the animal may need to be checked and travel in a kennel.

So the question then becomes, were those rules followed?

As a "decorated combat veteran", I'm a little tired of "decorated combat veteran" being used as an emotional argument to validate the claims of someone or try to get people on their side of a story/argument.
As a non "decorated combat veteran" I agree with you completely.

Yeah also, and not that it matters, because as Hacker points out, it doesn't, but it's curious to me that the article doesn't (unless I missed it) list any of her decorations.

One possible narrative here is "war hero treated shabilly by apathetic and/or nasty airline employees". But another one is more like "chick with a chest full of professional development and recruiting ribbons decides rules don't apply to her, smells big payout, plays laughable hero card"

The truth is probably somewhere in between.

If it does play out that the original narrative is true then it's still a worthwhile discussion about the "boy who cried wolf" effect caused by everyone and their sister getting an emotional support Animal vest for Mr Tibbles.
Also, someone should page @Murdoughnut, this is one of his favorite topics...

And you can order the "Emotional Support" and "Service Animal" vests off the internet with zero verification.

I was amazed at some of the seeing eye Scottish Terriers and bomb sniffing Poodles I saw while at Disney World. The woman with the Poodles had 3 of them all vested at the same time. Either they suck as bomb dogs and need to double check each other or she's full of crap. Who the hell does she think she's fooling?

I saw a "service dog" wrap it's leash around the lady leading it's legs and trip her because it was freaking out about all the activity on the ramp.

Now that's great service!

According to the interwebz, she was an officer in an engineering battalion and an instructor of a sexual harassment awareness course, so she's not exactly the Audie Murphy she's being made out to be. At any rate, I'm not sure what her veteran status has anything to do with her not being able to follow the rules, besides being used to over sensationalize the story.
