I finally gave up applying. To me competing with hundreds of other applicants just wasn't worth the effort. Plus the response for me was always No. So after three times of being said No to I finally gave up and came to terms that I wasn't going to UPS.

IMO you should never limit yourself when trying for a career job. If you aren't getting invited for interviews in your quest, I'd advise changing up your strategy rather than giving up.
 
Don't ever give up. If you stop applying, the answer will always be "no".

I would guess it's as simple as changing your resume. You need to make it more eye catching. Or it could be as simple as changing the description/job traits of your previous jobs.

I have read all of these articles (and more) and have partially rewritten my resume and am working on an updated "killer" resume. Some of these articles have partially contradictory information. Use your best judgement.

The modern resume is no longer a paper document, so don't write it like one.
  • Insert hyperlinks to your LinkedIn page, your blog or personal website if it's appropriate, a video introduction or "cover letter" video, etc. (you DO have a LinkedIn page, right?)
  • There is some controversy over file format. I prefer to use a PDF with embedded fonts so that it will always look the same no matter who opens it. I've seen Word documents and RTF's open differently on different computers. PDF's are "locked down" and cannot be easily or accidentally modified the way a Word file can. However, companies that use resume databases have trouble with PDF's and prefer a Word doc or docx file. It's up to you, just be prepared to live with the consequences. You really can't go wrong with a well formatted Word docx file as long you understand that it's "open." (I don't know why it bothers me, but it does)
  • Create a professional, fully public Facebook page and make your personal FB invisible to everyone except friends. Employers look at Facebook. Don't count on ever getting a job if this is your typical public FB status: "HELL NAW BOYZZZ!!! I got sooooo effed up last nite. wherz my bong?" Don't post anything political, controversial or sexual in nature in a non-anonymous public forum.
Not applying to a job is a sure-fire way to not get the job! Don't be afraid of the NO. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever. Failure at some point in your life is inevitable, but giving up is unforgivable. Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try and keep trying. It doesn't cost you anything but time to apply. Can I add any more aphorisms here? :eek:

Speaking of resumes.. would anyone have the time to take a look at mine? I have no prior aviation experience and have had very little luck in the application process so far.. a couple phone interviews but more often than not I don't even get a response. I have gotten in touch with Vicki Ross who came highly recommended here and have a phone appointment with her on Monday to go over it :cool:
