Cirrus factory flight instructor

I have a buddy that did this for a couple of years, from everything I hear its about the best single piston CFI job that's out there in terms of doing more than just flying around the patch for 1.1- lots of ferry work and lots of connections; meeting and flying with people taking delivery of their ~million dollar cirrus.

Is that what they're going for now? That's a lot of dang money for something that still only has one piston engine.

I interviewed for a position back in 2014 and ended up turning it down. Great company, great gig, and even better pay now!

indeed- I fly a 2009 for a private party and its a pretty capable platform, I agree that the price is pretty crazy for a single piston... that said, I've seen 250kts+ in cruise at 17gph in pretty good luxury. you cant beat the cost per hour for what you get.

What's the payscale on a gig like this? Seems like some sales/marketing skills are helpful in this gig, too.

but now they have a carrot in the form of a jet to dangle in front of you.. all the way to Tallahasse I believe

That's.....depressing.

Some perspective:

-It was more than first year regional FOs made at the time
-It's more than most public school teachers make in their first year
-It likely still is more than the average salary in Duluth, MN

Perhaps on the third point.

On the first two points - both the FO job and the teaching job have some degree of protections and a pathway for advancement. The CFI, in this case, is bringing a particular skillset to bear.

Cirrus is treating this like a move-on position, when they really ought to treat this as not only a long-term, well-compensated position, but arguably a position which is part of their sales and marketing operation. The CFI is going to bring some credibility to the Cirrus brand experience that sales and marketing generally can't.

At this price point, credibility is king.
