Unemployment...

You have a truck, put an ad on Craig's list to haul stuff away. Cash in pocket, UI check in the bank. Done deal.

Well, after jumping through all of the hoops that were required. Almost two weeks later I got approved for a whopping 300 a week in benefits. Thank goodness I have a class date soon! lol
Now you can relax, get your head in the game, start cleaning out stuff and packing, take some time to relax and unwind, tie up all the loose ends, sell whatever you don't need, maybe even see some friends and family, work out/get in shape physically, and get ready for the next adventure. Congrats on landing on your feet!!

And if your state requires you to actively look for a job to collect UI (most do), find out what the minimum requirement is, and knock on doors, fill out online applications, interview, etc. to meet the minimum. They do spot check, and you don't want to be caught out asking a buddy to lie for you. Keep copies & records to show them if necessary.

You may need to have documentation from your time at the last employer, particularly if they're out of business and can't answer queries from the UI folks. Pay stubs usually are enough.

Wait for your first strike, trust me, in '85 the UI lines were filled with United pilots, hope you don't need it again, but you pay for it. USE IT!

Hope they weren't living in Michigan. As I understand it being involved in a strike or labor dispute is a an automatic disqualification under the Michigan Employment Security act...
