Just an observation

i notice that on JC there doesn't seem to be much ongoing conversation about majors to include legacies, LLC and ULCC. the only continuing threads in the airline section seem to be all regional based and I was just wondering why this would be. APC has plenty of conversation in this category but "MY GOD!"......... That place is a giant cry baby factory where everyone must complain about everything in the world. The UAL,DAL,SWA and so on pilots on that site are only there to complain. Just saying I would like to see more major talk on here because the group here seems to be much more grown up.

I don't disagree.

I think a couple things contribute to that.

1) When you're at the regional level, a move up to any major is a step up. So there is a lot less debate as to where one should go. Plus, very rarely are you actually given multiple options, so "you have to dance with the one who asks" is a very valid statement.

2) Unfortunately we do have a lot of guys the that have been here a long time, move on to the next level, and then fall off the face of the earth because they got theirs.

***edited do to reading comprehension on my part***there should be more conversation about this. What about the guys who want to go to F9,NK,JB and so on. Very little talk about that on here and I just think that people here can answer questions better than the scum at APC.

Ok so you don't agree, but your argument is because we don't have choices and senior guys leave the site. That doesn't mean there shouldn't be more conversation about this. What about the guys who want to go to F9,NK,JB and so on. Very little talk about that on here and I just think that people here can answer questions better than the scum at APC.

I said I "don't disagree"

Part of it is that guys at the regionals are constantly trying to a) make the best of what can be a bad situation, b) vent about said bad situation and c) get as much intel as they can about how and when to get out of a bad situation. Once you make it to the Big Show, whether it be a Legacy, a "Major" (in the traditional sense, not the DOT sense) or even an LCC, stuff is pretty good (mostly) and your day to day life revolves less around flying and more around other things. Speaking personally, my participation level on this site decreased a fair amount once I made it to a Legacy. I see that happening with several other people I know on here who were huge (huuuuugee!) contributors at one point in time while at a regional still. It doesn't mean that I won't still do what I can to help a fellow JCer out and answer questions and participate in conversations, but I'm much less likely now to post about a "there I was, loading up the RJ" than "there I was, walking a shelter dog".

With that in mind...

Hawaiian is going to be opening the application window again sometime in October or November. Plans to hire between 120 and 150 next year, assuming they can find enough applicants and then figure out enough training department bandwidth to get them all through. Probably hiring for all fleets in 2017 but mostly 717 and 321 (later in the year). The interview process has become much more user friendly and streamlined (no more Dr. Farkus!) and large portions of it can take place in LA and possibly other mainland cities in the future. There is even a rumor of positive spacing new hires to their first day of class. Exciting times we live in.

Along those lines, there are some that had good insight/input here and were valuable (at least I paid attention to what they wrote and had to say). Then when they moved on they picked up the ball and ran. They became very much "shut up you lowly regional scum!" "You're wrong because you work for a regional. What you think doesn't matter!"

"But just last week, when you were at buzzsaw regional, you said the exact same thing!"

"Yea, well, you're still wrong. I wasn't then, but you are now."

(I quoted you to add on. Not because I think you're one of the ones I described.)

Just one, I think...

APC is what I would imagine cockpit or crewroom talk is all about. Work, work, work., with a heavy side of gossip. If you're able to look past the juvenile invectives. And all the baskets of deplorables. What with their bottomless pits of insecurity, and all the obvious psychopaths that call that place home. It's really a great place to get great info from all the "shop talk" that goes on there.

JC to me is a very different feel. It like hanging around family, at a summer bbq. And talking shop, with beers in hand. And will someone go get drunk uncle Larry. He's making an ass out of himself in public again. But hey, it's our drunk uncle Larry, we all know He's no anonymous internet stranger. And when sobers up, he's gonna get a kick out hearing how drunk he was. Right before the planned group intervention.

See, family!

To the OP: like many have said, the beauty of this place is that if there's something you want to discuss, you can feel free to start the discussion without worry that it'll start the embarassing "bum fight" that often occurs at the other place. This community includes representatives of just about every company within every facet of aviation, and all are willing to help.

I still visit the other place because the "community" is soo "youuuuge" that there is a treasure trove of good intel (hiring numbers, interview experiences, class drops, etc) to be found. Unfortunately, you have to sift through a TON of chaff to get to it...

I'm at F9 and I try to shoot straight (diplomatically). Fire away...

Yeah I think you guys are right, this place does have a nice dynamic and feels more like a group of long distance friends rather than an info factory.
