Roller bag/overhead bin

I'm looking for a recommendation on a roller bag that will fit in all overhead bins. I've heard that 22' bags sometimes do not fit in some airplane overhead bins.

My LW 22 inch fits perfectly in a CRJ. If you stuff the sides, it may be harder to close the bin but you can rearrange some stuff.

I used a LW 22" forever...fits normally in any standard mainline airplane. Turn it sideways for regional birds.

The older metal ones are much tougher than the newer plastic ones though. My plastic one didn't hold up very well to commuting and the daily bustle of airline life. Multiple bolts and nuts fell out while I owned it and just about every plastic piece cracked at some point. I'm also not a fan of how the handle is held stowed.

Had mine for 7 years (metal one). It's taken everything I've subjected it to, recently had it worked over and it came back like new for 90$

Disassemble and loctite everything, I noticed the handle screws started coming loose right away on mine so I did that and no problems since.

Yup, the LW22 works great on everything but the 145's. Man it gets heavy sometimes though
I used to hate them as a ramp agent because they were so short and heavy and the metal corners coming for you on the belt :bounce:.

With all the good reviews though I'll probably just end up buying one as well. Seems like the smart choice clearly.

I was about to jump on JC and post the same thing! Guess we are both gearing up for the regional suck eh?? I'm trying to find the most cost effective that will last a good three to five years. I've heard if you commute (especially on RJ's) the lifespan of the bag is significantly less due to many gate checked journeys

I've had the LW Stealth Air for a couple years and it's held up decently. Pretty scratched up and a little uhh, dented now I guess but it still rolls great. The velcro that holds the handle down does come apart pretty easily though.

Yeah but that's the only way people know your not a new guy, if you still have paint on the rails and no dents you look like a rookie.

I've got a Brookstone that I got with points from the Delta Employees Credit Union "store" with points and it's lightweight and fits in all overhead bins....so far. Tough too.

...and this is why you buy a LW Stealth 22" Go ahead. Throw my bag. I dare you. I had a buddy whose bag got caught in a gate elevator. Wrecked the gate elevator. They will fit in any overhead except a 145, but no roller is going to fit in a 145 overhead.. Been commuting with my current bag for probably 3 years now (if you take out some of the time I was "home" based), and I don't plan on replacing it anytime soon.

I have the plastic luggageworks 22" and I've been really happy with it.

My only caution is to replace the wheel bearings when they start making noise. I didn't and ended up having to replace my whole bag when the bearings seized around the bolt, melting the plastic it was screwed into.

The only time I've had to check it has been when they run out of room on the airplane...like when @Rocketman99 brings in your airplane late from ORD, turning boarding into a free for all.

I'm usually pretty laid back...and I understand that when room runs out and you're the one holding a bag, you are the one that gets to check it. But when the catty FA says "yeah, you'll have to check that. That wouldn't have fit anyway" I had to counter with "it would, and you know it would because you probably have the same bag."

Honestly surprised my bag didn't end up in Nome.

The bearing bushings can rust onto the axle bolt, making it impossible to unscrew anything. If this happens, carefully taking a sawzall to the bolt is the only solution. This can be avoided by applying anti-seize grease to the bolts every fall.

My blowout happened on the road and then the damage was done. Got many years out of the bag. Expecting the new one to last longer since it doesn't get gate checked as much and doesn't have a 300 lb flight case hanging from it.

Heh, if I only knew you were going to be getting on that plane I would've casually strolled out upstairs through the gate area with a big smile on my face. :D What a freaking miserable morning that was in ORD with the wx and ground delays.

Try being nice to the agents/FAs and maybe next time they'll give you a planeside tag instead of regular claim. :P

What do you guys strap to the roller bag? Laptop case, headset, cooler? I'm brand new to the game.
