SeaPort files bankruptcy

Sucks for the guys and gals over there. But, I've never seen an operator like them last very long in most places. Seems like everyone who has that kind of operation has been at it a while.

Maybe a good opportunity for Cape to acquire some new airframes for cheap?
All the seaport aircraft are leases AFAIK and many are in rough shape.

Look folks. This is really a good thing. Over the next few weeks and months a lot of stuff is going to become public about this company that was protected by the bankruptcy. Much like a person who is terminally ill, this company needed to go. There was a lot of bad management going on here and not all of it could be tied to Rob McKinney. A lot of Seaports problems started with Tim Sieber. When he took over for Rob I knew the company wasn't going to be around much longer and thats when I bailed (twice actually).

As I was in management with the company I was privy to a lot. As I was IT I was privy to just about everything the company did. I don’t relish in the loss of jobs but there were some real douchebags here. And even after getting busted for stuff they continued to do it because management knew better. And this stuff continued right up to today. This was a company that did not take the employees and more importantly the passengers safety and security seriously. The FAA fine is just one single example of that.

This was a company that treated its employees and customers horribly. Management here did some really crappy stuff to hard working employees often just out of spite or fun (as in the case of SOC). I’ve got a real interesting story about how management went after some VERY hard working rampers during Halloween. I eventually had to ask the CEO step in to save some jobs. Hell I have a whole bunch of great stories of management going after hard working employees who on a regular occasion single handedly saved the company. With one exception every single person at the top floor of this company was a complete and utter twat.

The hard workers here will bounce back. Most of the PDX people already have jobs. In one case he was hired an hour after he lost his job by a competing airline. Starts on Friday. I and others at PDX are working on helping others find new jobs.

This was long overdue. And the industry will be better for it.

Yikes. What's the latest with NM?

Noel will be fine. He will land somewhere pretty quickly. He got job offers regularly to leave Seapot. And with some maturity he will be a great asset to anywhere he goes. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at Boutique if they end up going to PDT (which is looking more and more unlikely at the moment) or he will go back to the airlines.

Out of curiosity, you went from new hire to management in a matter of LESS than six months?

Yes, I was hired as a pilot, during my training the company had some IT related issues come up and as it was known I had significant experience in the industry I was asked to take on a second role as the director of IT. The company had an external vendor who couldn't dress themselves in the morning never mind manage a nationwide IT infrastructure. I was promoted to that position before I completed flight training on the condition that I was allowed to continue as a pilot part time. What was supposed to be a part time job turned into a full time IT position that I regretted accepting fairly quickly. I maybe flew for the company at the most 30-50 hours a month.

And yes at one time I was very positive about the company. Over time it became apperent that there were some significant problems with the management of the company.

But my comments in the threat above still are acurate. The company didn't have a pilot with a DUI, although later they had one with drug charges who was allowed to continue to fly while fighting the drug charges.

The were short staffed but that wasn't why the company was bad. Although it might explain why the company had such a problem finding pilots.

Nothing in the list I posted are reasons why the company was bad. And they are challenges facing every 135/121 in the industry. But the grips listed were BS pilot excuses for complaining. Yeah flying without a autopilot sucks but isn't a reason to cancel a flight on a VFR day with two pilots flying a Cessna Caravan.

Seapot has all sorts of other reasons for the crap company they were that. But the idea was sound and if they had not had such crappy management, with one exception, it would have been a great place to work. I'd still probably work for Noel. I saw him go to bat for some pilots that I doubt anyone else would have. He did a good job separating the pilots from most of the management BS. Better than any other manager I have ever had.

Saw this coming two years ago. Im glad I was able to dissuade some of you from going there. The guys on property currently will all be fine in the long run. Everyone is hiring and just about all former K5ers are more than willing to write them internals.

That doesn't mean anything positive.

Of course not. What's your point?

Employees are not slaves. What they do outside of work is their own business. Not defending someone with a DUI as an upstanding citizen but an employee making a mistake on their personal time shouldn't be a reflection on the company. How the company handles it is a different story.

That something you heard is correct!

With the expansion plans, I cannot see how Boutique will stay afloat if they run into similar staffing issues.. Hoping for the best though because working for a company and then suddenly being unemployed is a crappy feeling.

Just got off the phone with three very good friends that are all FO's in Memphis. their times range from 550-750. They are freaking out right now because they took the gamble on taking a job at an airline that was in bankruptcy. I feel almost responsible as I referenced them with the best of intentions. They are all trying to throw apps out but we all know with that amount of hours and it all being caravan time they are not that competitive in the market. sub 1000 hours is a hard area to break into without the CFI ticket, which they all lack as they followed my lead out of flight school.

There's always Great Lakes.

There's always Great Lakes.
Great Lakes will be down to just 10 destinations by Christmas. Other EAS carriers are outbidding them on their routes. Great Lakes stopped hiring FOs and are only hiring those qualified to fly as Captain or ATP qualified FOs.

They might want to look at Cape Air FO positions. Unfortunately, there's a training contract.
