Camarillo (KCMA) - Ramp Check!

I don't know -- I just figured that since they are interrogating you, it would be similar to walking away from a traffic stop or something.
Next time you're involved in a traffic stop wherein the law enforcement officer confronts you while wearing plain clothes, without a badge or proper ID, you have my permission to "flee the scene".

That's not a cop then. It's just some random person, probably in a stolen police vehicle if it has lights and sirens.

EXACTLY MY POINT! Thanks for playing along.......
AND, if a FFA guy shows up to ramp check you without proper ID, he's just some guy at the airport, you have no obligation to do anything he says.

Physically handing him either is exactly what jammed up Bob Hoover. Despite Hoovers numerous attempts to convince them otherwise, the FFA considered the act one of "surrender". He eventually won the battle but it's one I refuse to fight.
Also, the inspector in question had NO problem with my solution. I held my cert and allowed him to compare the copy with what I was showing him.

They don't do that anymore. 61.27(b) says you must submit a request to surrender your certificate in writing.

Couldn't the FAA consider that fleeing from a scene and get after you if they really wanted to?

They don't have the authority to detain you.

What did upset me was the impact to aviation business. The FAA spent 8 hours in front of the WayPoint Cafe and Channel Island Aviation. I know the cafe lost revenue Sunday based on the text I sent out, they diverted to Santa Paula for breakfast. People may stay away from those business for a long time to avoid a ramp check.
We'll take the business thanks. They have been in SZP on occasion. Plus it was our first Sunday of the month open house. You should've been over there any way. It was a pretty slow first Sunday considering the weather was decent and it was a summer day. Had some beers at my hangar and enjoyed the view either way. :)

Thank you. Didn't know this. Is this sub-paragraph a result of the "Hoover Incident"?
I'm pretty sure I'll stick with providing a photo copy anyway.....seems to work,

I don't know the history behind it, but it's a big deal. The local FSDO can't even process a voluntary surrender without contacting the FAA Regional office, who oversees the FSDO.

They've been frequenting CMA for a while now. I often see them walking the rows of hangars. They followed a friend of mine as he taxied to his hangar

40 hours a week...no more, no less

If you ever get sleepy I've spent more than one afternoon here.

I Love that i got people calling it the FFA..........................................................I RULEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!

How would anyone know from observing from a distance that "half the folks were getting violated"? (and for what, exactly?)
I find that hard to believe. Unless it is a hotbed of cowboys, most have legal airplanes.

The distance was very close, the picture in post 1 was taken from the restaurant, sometime he would pull out his book, other times not.

While I don't argue that you rule, I've been making this reference for years. I think the line between the two organizations has become fuzzy over the years....

P.S. My apologies to any Farmers (or potential farmers) that may take offense...none intended.
