First OCC Visit

of course they have to be rude, i mean HOW DARE that scheduler ask him to do the job he signed up for ??

i could never comprehend the whole concept of that, why cant it be like this
1. we have a trip
2.we have an A/C
3. we have you (Pilot)
4. now go fly the Damn thing to where we tell you to fly it

Some,not all are the mortal enemy. Some have the whole "screw the crews" mentality which is sad. Some also have aviation backgrounds or backgrounds in other fields where they know what it was like to be away from home on holidays,birthdays,etc. I've found if you treat them with respect (i.e.,address Captain's by their title,and empathize with them) that your interactions with them will be mostly pleasant.

And yes,many schedulers have their licenses because it never hurts being an internal candidate when an opening comes up since try already know your work ethic

When I was Shift Manager for UAX Ops in IAD I always did the same thing. I always felt like it was my job as the "Team Leader" for my department to try and make sure that I was able to help out my workers any chance I could get Same thing for when people would call out sick or had really late flights due to wx/mx what have you, often times I would just pick up the shift myself since a lot of my team were over worked a lot of the times and didn't get to see their families that often. Probably the biggest downside to this industry is trying to get holidays off, but going that extra mile to look out for your people is the difference between a leader and a boss
 
What's more important guys? Family or advancing yourself in the cutthroat aviation industry? You gotta sacrifice to get ahead in this biz

You don't have to sacrifice family to advance yourself in any industry (although there are plenty of people that do and that is their foolish decision because family will always be there for you, your job could care less), it is about making alternative arrangements. You have to get creative. Besides, when two families mix, that just makes it even more fun. I felt like it was a game of tug-of-war. Do you spend one holiday with one family and the other with the other family, or do you alternate. So complicated. Someone is going to lose out if you don't live in the same town. We have had after holiday or before holiday celebrations in my family. Mini Thanksgiving, or Mini Christmas is wonderful...and better for the waistline. :D
