Southern Jets Bound

I'll add,

My motto is, "I start off slow and taper off." That said, my slow can be a new hire's fast. I let them set the pace for delayed starts and checklists so they don't feel time compressed.
How's that saying go? Slow is smooth, smooth is fast?

@Cptnchia it will be much appreciated, always did the same for new hires here as well. Tried to rack up some karma for when I'm the new guy soon ;)

I remember taking a new hire who was a career changer into ORD for his first time, told him to relax do his best and I'll be happy to help him figure it all out. I'll need some of that at the NYC airports I'm sure.

My best asset, an alert FO who can "see around the corner" and anticipate the needs of the operation so I don't have to "do you mind making a PA because we're stopping short of the gate" — he's already on it.

My worst asset? A beat-down FO who has been flying with micromanaging boneheaded captains that think their FO is somehow supposed to not only read their mind but want to retrain him into a "Mini Me" with all the negativity, "on my third wife" bitterness and everything was amaze-balls before the merger.

Ungh.

Bid what you want, want what you bid.

Do not, I implore you, do not attempt to bid "strategically". When the music stops, and it always does in the airline business, you don't want to be stuck as the first officer plug in NYC on the 717 because you heard the massive growth was going to in LAX and you commute from Visalia and really wanted to fly the 73N (Yes, @Seggy, "73N") in SLC.

As usual, your mileage may vary!

So glad I didn't come come home "boozy" and a little upset with my coworkers on the 330 and bid mad dog else I'd be catatonic.

You educate the FNGs about why a pension may not be something they want from your current negotiations?

I think I do plenty Mr. Swaggerwagon. :)
it's okay it's just @Seggy putting words in other people's mouth. He pretends to know what he is talking about but instead he just makes himself look like a giant ignoramus. It's the classic case of "is this guy trolling, you cant be serious" to find out no he's not trolling and he actually is serious.

Just stopped by this thread to say Hey SouthernJets! Thanks for getting me out of a jAAm recently when my own airline:

- Bumped 17 revs to get "some" of a group of 60 home. Not even the whole group made it.
- forgot to clear standbys on Leg Two

Those lie-flat beds are a DOOZY.

Congratulations, bike21.

Part of this advice is because DEN-LAX is going to 5x daily 717 service in the near future and that's a lot of daily jumpseats to book in advance or ride in the galley worst case.
bump because i just looked and i see it a mix between compass and skywest through the end of the year...when is it going to mainline? feel free to pm if you want. That could definitely change my bid over to SLC idea.

Not trying to pick on you because I feel guilty about (playfully) messin' with ya before, but the fleet blend of a route by referencing TravelNet is, unfortunately, only reliable for very approximately 60 days.

Don't feel guilty

I wouldn't bid a new base just based on this, but it seemed credible as I was talking to a CPO type who mentioned it. Or maybe that makes it more unlikely than anything else!

I rather liked flying with Captains who had excellent command-ability, instead of making low-order suggestions.

(yes, I know that this is a tightrope type thing)
