Any truth to the rumor, that if you want to work for a certain major, you have to work for regional X? Since the big airlines, have either flows or guaranteed interviews? Example: SKYW. According to another site, SJI, and UA, prefer to hire their pilots, verses pilots from other airlines. Or XJT, Delta really likes to hire their guys.
Not sure but I do know both UAL and SJI are hiring a lot of pilots from CPZ. Like 3-4 in each class which is quite a bit for such a small airline. I think XJT and SKYW try to claim that because they are so large but in reality the % isnt as large.

It's just so awkward....So odd.

That type of thing has been around aviation for a long, long, long time. A similar statement was on doorways at more than one AF squadron I've been in, too. It is just meant to be motivational, not an affirmative statement of superiority compared to your peers.

Yeah it really only gets bad if you start to actually believe it ;)

Not sure if it was covered elsewhere, but the SSP folks are not having good success during SJI interviews. Something like 25-35% success rate. I'd advise not to go to a certain regional for any type of flow or perceived chances of moving on to your desired legacy down the road. Rather, choose the regional that fits you based on other characteristics (QOL!!!!) and build your resume up from there to get the job on your own merits.

Hmmm don't you work at Skywest?.... And where have you heard those SSP numbers? I have heard much higher, in fact I even know of some who are still voluntary furloughed/LOA from 9E, Captains at another regional, interviewed under the SSP and got hired.

Well, I guess I'll step back and not say for certain that is an overall solid number. However, when I was prepping for the SJI interview the SSP interview days were returning some really poor numbers. I don't have access to the data now but one day was 2 out of 7. Every other day's results I saw were no better than 50% whereas the 'normal' interviews have been in the more typical 70% plus success rate. My own group was 7 out of 11.

I don't mean to disparage the guaranteed interview or flow programs, but they can go away overnight. Doesn't help that some folks from these programs seem to show up thinking they are owed the job. Which obviously doesn't help their cause.

Overall point is to not put too much emphasis on choosing a regional for these hiring programs. Folks should make themselves the best overall possible candidate in a well rounded way and have fun along the way. The career and life are too short to not be happy at XYZ regional when ABC regional would have otherwise been a better choice.

What's the difference between, the SSP and the OTS interview?
 
Not sure to be honest. I doubt they really change the interview up much for the groups. I came out of the computer testing feeling like I shouldn't be let within 50' of an airplane. HR went well, but I studied my arse off for it & drew upon my own past experiences vs canned answers.

Im sure that helped a ton!

One thing I highly recommend for the HR portion of the interview is to keep some sort of notes when anything special or out of the ordinary happens on a trip. Either jot it down in your logbook or on your phone. That way you can more easily recall a ton of stories from your flying career, it makes the prep much easier. Most of the HR question revolve around similar themes, things like conflict resolution, customer service, and working with your peers. This is something I really wish I would have had when I did my HR prep.
 
You can be a warm body newhire at PSA , Vege out, and never have to interview again and you'll be at AA one day.
 
Thats why I always recommend people using the notes app on their phone. Write down any and all things abnormal so when the big day comes you can remember all your stories. Started it at my first regional, helped alot when trying to remember everything.
