Multi Add On

Hey Everyone,

Just wondering if you all could provide some leads on a flight school that does accelerated ( full immersion) multi engine add on rating. I reached out to Tom Brady and Action but they are booked until fall. As you all know ATP does not do add on ratings any more.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Aspen Flying Club in Denver can get you a multi add on in less than a week.

Send me a private message.

Ran into the same problem. Took me 4 months to find someone. Now 6 months into the process of getting my multi. I found twin time in Oregon that was able to get it done in about a month.

Instructor Dave Aldridge has about 23,000 hours. Has done 1000s of multi ratings. You'll pay a bit more but get great instruction.

I might have someone for you, I just reached out to find out a timeline for you. Availability of examiner/ instructor and such. When they respond, I'll let you know.

Multi add on should be accelerated no matter where you go. Part 61 program can be completed in a week provided an airplane, instructor, and motivation to study hard.

When did that happen? Multi add on was their bread and butter for years.

A multi add on should not take more than a week if you are proficient in singles.

Hi USMCmech,

I believe this change only happened in the Fall of 2015. I think they are only doing Career Programs, ATP CTP, and the regional jet courses.

We do Multi Engine Add-ons as well in Wyoming. Maybe not the cheapest, but you will get to fly a Cessna 310R in some pretty neat mountain flying country!

I used Premier Flight Academy at BKL in Cleveland with their Duchess. Knocked it out in 3 days with 2 other students. Took the check ride with 3.7 hours of multi time
They were very accommodating, but that may have been because there were 3 of us and the plane wasn't rented frequently.

Can you really learn to fly a multi safely and competently in 3.7 hours? Or even 6 or 7?

I would say yes. The mill I went to (not really derogatory - I thought Action did a great job) was a fast but through program to where I can still do flows without a second thought. Proficiency speaks to the competency of the pilot more so. I suppose it hinges on the pilots learning styles and abilities.

I did my ME at ATP about 6 years ago when they were running a $1000 special. Did it in 2-3 days with 4 hours going into the checkride.

Wow. My rating is going to be 3K and 10 hours. I'm at 6 an just now starting to feel confident enough to handle an emergency. Sounds like some of the places are just pencil whipping people to the check ride. I guess they figure every one is going the get the proper training you need when they get to the airlines.

Even Action Multi engine ratings is 7 hours. I just can't imagine being ready for a check ride in 4 hours or less. I'm sure it can be done, but how competent of a pilot would you be?

Most places I rent from even require at least 5 hours for check out in a complex aircraft.

ymmv, everyone learns at a different pace. I spent around 1800 including examiner fees, but we negotiated a lower rate since we were flying the heck out of the airplane while it normally sat.
