PSA hiring, again.

yep. stay positive. you're probably dispatching illegally and you're not learning the skills it takes to move on to a major. But stay positive... that'll get you where you want to be. Unfortunately, that's not going to help you pass the test or interview at a major.

Well this certainly makes zero sense to me. Fresh out of school, one may not learn to actually "do" the job until OJT, but we all learned the regs and how to read a company manual in dispatch school. If anyone is dispatching illegally, well...that is a failure on their part. You can't blame an airline for that.

Rather than complaining about your past experience at PSA all the time, why don't you share some positive ways you excelled to eventually land your job at UA? I'm guessing newbies could benefit from that much more than your rants about PSA and their management team.

Bam!

I am a firm believer that one's attitude has so much to do with their success. We've all been or will be at a less than desirable shop on the way up. To me, it is how you handle that time. Draw whatever positives there may be - even if it's the simple fact that you're getting a paycheck and experience to add to your resume. Granted, it may be crappy practical experience because the training sucks or there are little to no resources, but it's experience nonetheless. Make it what you will. And that is where attitude comes into play.

And for God's sake, when you've actually made it to a major, don't waste your time and energy complaining about what an awful place brand X was and tearing that place down on a public forum. Get over it. Release the negativity. Be happy. Be grateful. Life is just to dang short.

Yasssss!

No, he isn't, and neither am I.
Womanpilot73 said it right, get over it and yourself. Life is too short to be miserable. Be grateful. If you have had the experience of being at PSA in the past, then use that experience as to what NOT to work for or with.

I am grateful. Grateful for the fact I left PSA! Your right. Life is too short. That is why after a great run at a company that hit misfortune, I don't waste my time staying at a place like PSA. I guess the purpose of these forums is to not be honest in giving information. So here is the JC politically correct posting.

PSA....where its flowers, puppies, and cute little babies, day in and day out!

My original comment wasn't directed at you. It was directed at the few people here who moan and groan about the past places they've worked, regardless of the fact that they are at majors now. It was to say, stop complaining and offer some constructive advice to new people looking for their first job. Tearing down former managers by name over and over again does nothing to help anyone and to be honest, the negativity is old and tired.

I like puppies.

I hate babies.

Flowers were the generations before me, so that's up in the air, ... or. something.

I have been following along here for a while and now I feel like wading in (or weighing in) on this topic. I think what most are tying to do here is shame the PSA OCC management into making some changes. And from what I hear...these rants, as some have called them, are beginning to find their way up the ladder. It seems some of the recent hiring issues have been blamed on JetCareers. Oh, you mean the thread where past employees, WHO TRIED LIKE HELL to make and create change, are calling as it is.....That thread? You Mainline guys sit back with your fat union paychecks, literally preaching from on high, while those poor folks at PSA have a horrible CBA that has been out of date for 2 yrs and management keeps cancelling the union meetings. Not just postponing...neh, cancel. over and out. dont come back. Look at poor Brickyard....they are in bankruptcy and they are out of contract but management has been working with the union somewhat and they are trying for God's sake. And here is another little ditty...if you think this is bad and clearly you mainline elites do, then try reading the PSA Pilot's postings on other forums and on their FB page! Those guys make this thread look like a vacation bible school. They hate every inch of PSA and for good reason. PSA is the worst in pay for starting FOs. That's all I'll say on that...So it's not just the OCC....its systemic, yet I think the OCC management can do a lot to help everyone have a better working life and some dignity in the work place.
I'm sure many or you are saying, "well just get out if you dont like it" And that is the kind of narrow minded intolerance that lets management do what they want. Just like in real life, not everyone can just move on. Some folks live in the area and cannot move. Some have kids in school and others have elderly parents they care for. So they are home each night bathing the kids or grandma...and they dont have time to surf the internet and look for jobs. Certianly not mainline jobs in other cities. So why can't PSA provide a decent wage and decent workplace?
I feel for my brothers and sisters that are still there and are being railroaded every damn day.

And many thanks to JRDownUnder...you arrived with your zillion yrs experience (and your super tricked out spreadsheet!!) and tried to help us all and show us the light. Even you knew you wouldn't be there long. Four months and you were gone. But you did your best to correct so many wrongs. I think Im gonna write a country song....

Most of you have not a clue about PSA and some of you have never worked at a ramshackle regional, so to me your comments are the least relevant of any. So please stop lecturing those that seek some sort of voice or justice within the system. Stop stroking each other over your "rants" about how we are just too stupid to "get over it". That is not the point of all this.
This whole thing reminds of how white folk keep telling the black man that racism is all gone and if you think not then you're just lazy and cant "network" and to "just get over it". It is precisely the same logic.
If guys want to start a thread about how unbelievably fantastic it is to work in Louisville or Dallas, then please do so. Share with us your incredible schedule and your super sky-high wages. No one will stop you. In fact we probably wont spend too much time reading it either.

Do you honestly think that some of us haven't paid our dues at sh*tbag operators to get where we are? Well, we have and it SUCKED. But what's the point in continually complaining about everything that happened at past jobs? What is being gained from that? I just don't see the point. There's no resolution. The biggest complainers on here have moved on and gotten jobs at majors, so why not let it go? Why go off on the same crap over and over and over again?

I feel for anyone who's currently embracing the suck. It's not fun and it shouldn't be that way. But the reality is that it's part of this industry. If you want sunshine and roses during the ladder climb, this industry is not for you. It sucks no matter what direction you take to rise to the top in your dispatch career.

And your leap to racism... REALLY?!? SMH.

Ask anyone who worked for Pinnacle in MEM what the company culture, quality of life, pay, etc...were like. We used that experience as the stepping stone to get to where we are. I cannot answer for others, but I purged and do not keep reliving all of the negative experiences I had. Broken record. Happiness starts within.

This. I worked at four different airlines before I got to a major. Went through two different Chapter 11 bankruptcies, two losses of major codeshare partners at different regionals, and one airline completely going out of business without warning. I have seen PLENTY of bad management practices over the years. I'm sorry PSA has been dragging their feet on contract negotiations...but at least there is a union there! I was at one regional airline that put heavy pressure on all the dispatchers to not vote one in, including some tactics that were legally questionable. And if anyone thinks regionals are the only places where negotiations drag out...mainline UA was in them for approximately 10 years before their current agreement was finally negotiated and ratified. I try and not dwell on past negative workplace experiences and look towards the future instead. Even at places I wasn't happy, I feel like the experiences I gained there helped prepare me for success later in my career.

Yeah mem wasn't too bad, could have been better, but I stayed and got experience and I even moved with the company to msp and even a name change. Pinnacle/endeavor helped me get my foot in the door and get valuable experience. And psa is helping me get even more experience and being an dispatch coordinator has helped me see every angle behind dispatching I believe. I know one day I'll get to a major. And I'll learn even more. I can't wait.

I don't know about the rest of you but I would throughly enjoy 1,000 dispatchers sitting next to me with her attitude. Hats off, a bow, a curtsey, a high five or buying a glass of whiskey and a beer to show appreciation and gratitude would not even do justice.
