Happens in the civilian world too. Delta is buying AA's super80s and parting them out to keep the 88s flying. Have a bud who's dad was an AMT with NWA back in the day when they were still flying Connies. He had to go to the desert to find a part, and found a luggage bin still full of bags from when the plane was pulled off the line two years earlier.
ROW is full of AA jets, in the same way that MZJ is full of Delta jets. There are no AA jets at MZJ at all. The bulk of AAs DC-10 fleet, and much of UAs DC-10 fleet, went to GYR for the FedEx MD-10 conversion program.

And the Air Force has looked into those bone yards as to the feasibility of maintaining the KC-10 fleet because let's face it there aren't any more being made.
Kinda messed up that the 10 being half as old is harder to maintain than the near 60 year old 707 fleet of 135s.
We need some new airplanes.

Why do we need new airplanes when drones will be cheaper and quicker to make?

Because you can't do half the things people think drones will do. Seriously... Gets into serious classified topics quickly but the only people telling everybody all the things drones could do better than manned aircraft are the people selling the drones.
Not to mention the fact that a drone capable of doing the job of say an F-15E isn't going to be cheap and disposable because it needs all those same things that make the Strike so expensive to do the same job.

There is no better feeling when the weather in the AOR is going to be dog squeeze than seeing that you're fragged all night to have a coalition tanker operating one of the Airbus variants. We do need new tankers. Unfortunately the US manufacturers/Congress are in a contest to see if they can cause a tanker gap bigger than the fighter gap that Congress and Lockheed has caused.

But unfortunately, all the E/G model F-4s were converted to drones and have been mostly expended. The remaining C/D model F-4s are awaiting scrapping.
The A-6 Intruders are being pulled for scrapping right now.
No Broncos in the boneyard for a long time; never really were, as those went to other countries or to other government agencies once they were retired.
Haven't been Skyraiders in the boneyard since before Vietnam, all those having been pulled out for war service, then given to the South Vietnamese when we were done with them.
No F-105s either, all those having been scrapped post retirement, or F-106s, all those having been converted to drones prior to the F-4.
There are some odds and ends aircraft still in the boneyard, such as a few RF-8G Crusaders and EB-57E electronic birds, for unknown reasons.
Oh how I miss my exfoliation corrosion birds!

While I chased my fair share of corrosion on the A-6 the S-3 was much worse. We didn't call it the "powder puff" for nothing!!
