Drone Laws Relaxed

We had a report of a 4-5 foot drone at 065 and 20 yards or so off the nose of a inbound charter flight two weeks ago. Just a matter of time.

Im getting into this business and I think the FAA has definitely screwed up. I'm still going through the 600+ pages but the glaring scary parts to me are the altitude limits and anybody 16+ can do this now for a business.

I've had many requests to do it on the side but I'm not ready to touch this with a ten foot pole. Doesn't help that most photo sites are under a really busy airspace.

I worked to hard to lose my ATP because of a toy.

That is exactly why I'm getting into it as my business. I would rather be able to turn down clients because of safety reasons rather than having somebody I'm contracting for telling me where to go and shoot. It'll be interesting as this field becomes really active and seeing how people deal with safety issues. I have a feeling once the first drone strike happens, the FAA will clamp down extremely hard and we'll be right back where we are right now, with the exemption process. The FAA has screwed this up so badly with exemptions then these rulings that it'll be interesting to watch them dig themselves out of this.

The helo and cropduster crowd is who I am most worried about...they are the low fliers and have the most exposure to this.

Aerial survey is mostly kaput. Check 21 kill Airnet, etc. and this will kill one of the last great time builders for pilots.

That being said, there are some killer things you can do with these things.
