Did Anyone Else Hear About the Naked and Unruly Passenger Over Guard?

All I heard was the other day a Delta jet going into PHX giving the "thank you for flying Delta, we know you have a choice, especially as a Skymiles medallion member, and the great skymiles credit card...blah blah blah." All over CGZ CTAF for about a 1:10 minutes

Most likely actually not Delta.

There's a voice I've heard numerous times in the east coast/midwest that likes to do a fake Delta announcement on 121.5. It's not real because it's so overdone and in an FM radio station DJ type voice, with a blatant "thanks for flying Delta" drawn out at the end of it.

Obviously this pilot has a fully diagnosable personality disorder found in the DSM-V and I'm sure the pilot sitting next to them watching their stunt go on for a minute thinks it's a real hoot -- effective networking, for sure.

.

No reason to believe it wasn't Delta. From the freq to how it sounded, to these apparently happening here and there, to the fact that I doubt someone would just pop up on 122.7 random freq, and give a pax PA announcement without knowing if anyone is on freq who is GA who gives a care. The whacko on 121.5 is doing it for a reason on 121.5....he knows other rival carriers and the guard police are on there.

I think I heard that guy over Indiana last year. Prior to that, I never appreciated how much adolescent behavior occurs on guard.

Scam PA.

I flew with a couple captains at my ex airline who would make fake PAs on guard and pretend to be Delta pilots just to illicit a response. Now that Im no longer there I hear these troll broadcasts all the time... Usually features very vague flight information (welcome aboard your Delta flight to New York) and then a long spiel about carrier landings and the like.

It already pisses me off to hear people joking around in the local practice area frequency. I understand having a bit of fun on the job, but that's BS.

I kind of doubt it in this case. Only because this one was pretty official sounding and not on guard, hence no real audience. It was on a CTAF. No reason to do one there screwing around. I have no doubt it was an honest switchology mistake by a Delta jet

If it had been on guard, I could see it being some idiot spoofer.

I don't monitor guard. I'll admit it.

Lets say someone is over ISO and makes a transmission on guard. Everyone within his reception area wants to chime in that "YOWER ON GUARDDDD" and that stretches that "hubris" circle from several hundred miles to potentially several THOUSAND miles because all of the jackasses want to chime in. Pilots who are supposed to be adults will start the "work work work" thing, play music and it lasts for several minutes.

Meh.

I'll wait for the 'contact Washington on 123.12' through the ACARS.

CLPDC - Bing
"Contact Los Angeles(or New York or SFO) center on 13X.xx"

*dials in the new frequency, turns com 2(on 121.5) all the way down so I can't hear it*

**watches other pilot turn his com 2 to mute**

Domestic procedures complete.

Tons of adult-children in this profession, I've seen. And not confined to just one part of the profession.

Since getting the new helicopter that monitors Victor Guard instead of just Uniform Guard, I've had to explain to pilots what that annoying background chatter was. Since most have never flown civilian and most aren't aviation dorks on a forum, they have no idea. There's no good way to explain why professional pilots joke around on an emergency frequency. There IS a good way to teach them how to disable Guard on the victor though. ;)

I monitor guard out here anywhere near the SFRA because a) we're supposed to and b) they often use it to warn GA pilots about possible/nearing violations. Bit of extra insurance for SA doesn't hurt.

That said, I was grinding my teeth because someone decided to repeatedly whistle the Star Wars theme on the freq for a while. Really annoying.

Just curious for those who don't monitor guard, what do you do for your long flights? How do you stay entertained? I don't participate in guard shenanigans but the anticipation of waiting to hear a guard fight keeps me awake while burning holes in the sky late at night or early in the morning. I am too smart for the USA Today crossword.

I monitor guard, but when it devolves beyond its intention I turn it off, rarely I'll switch to fingers to hear what the GA guys are chatting about.

You didn't seem to mind when we flew together. ;)
