Great Job Delta!

If only there was such a hub-bub from pilots when ALPA was giving up scope for a few pieces of silver. We wouldn't have this Dickens-esque "Tale of Two Cities" we have in the industry today but alas. Just an observation.

Aren't they building a bigger, better, international terminal, at Hartsfield? I heard that the current one, is considered too small, with not enough gate space.

Do you even a.net bro?

Yeah, I knew they got a new tower and international terminal, a while back. But a friend of mine who is a Civil engineer, in ATL said that his firm was putting out bids for the future expansion project the airport is planning. And said that they were building a new terminal, and possibly expanding the international terminal. Due to limited gate space.

Not in the too near future. Bids take forever, the city moves like a snail and international terminal is good with capacity now. Never really crowded.

That's the thing about international terminals though. It may not be crowded for most of the day, but if there is not enough room for one bank of international flights, the international terminal isn't big enough.

Actually, yes. There is an expansion wing that is going to be built with nine gates, but who knows when. Also, SWA, wanted to build their own terminal where the mid field terminal was going to be built next to 10/28 and wanted exclusive use of that runway. The airport told them as long as they reimbursed Delta for the billions that they put up for the construction of the runway, they could have at it.

Hey, the A380 is pretty impressive and I was kidding, BTW. I understand that. But, how many flights does Qatar have to Atlanta and how often? Do you even know and of those flights are they really hurting Delta financially when passengers don't have another choice? So, how is sharing a gate going to destroy the livelihood of Delta and all the American carriers? I don't agree with the way that those carriers in the middle east are being subsidized, but it doesn't mean that I have to play games and play stupid when the gate issue is questioned. Why couldn't Delta just say that they didn't agree with their policies, etc. instead of act coy about it? Oopsie, we coudn't give up those gates for an arrival that we knew about for at least three months? That is where I have the problem. If you don't like Qatar and you don't want them at your airport, just state it that way.

Qatar and the ME3 are trying to decimate the US Airline Industry. I can go on and on, but the information isn't that hard to find what they are trying to do. BTW, you are extraordinarily naive if you think high stakes games AREN'T played by various airlines and countries. I think Venezuela and Nigeria alone owe US Airlines $2 billion dollars in ticket sales or something like that.

I am specifically talking about Delta and their issue with the Atlanta airport. Not the all encompassing issue, which doesn't apply because they were allowed to fly into Atlanta. I am fully aware of the political issues behind what is going on in the middle east. But, that greater scope doesn't apply here. It was a gate, and playing dumb..

Pretty sure that if the Delta 777 needed a part in Dubai when they were serving that route, Emirates wouldn't have any parts to give.

So, now it turns into a personal attack because I am the diplomatic one? Stick to the topic, and stop trying to insult me personally, because you have no business doing that, and it certainly isn't going to help me respect your position further. If you don't agree, leave it at that, but you aren't going to change my mind that Delta not facing the issue truthfully and instead pretending like they didn't know the gates were going to be conveniently occupied wasn't a dick move.

You are the one making it personal by expecting others to not have an issue with your attitude towards an airline trying to take my job away.

I have no problem with Delta standing up to Qatar, just do it truthfully and stand ground without acting like a spoiled brat.

Wow, such naivety.

You must have been pretty upset when AA got awarded the JFK-DOHA GSA contract (Operated by Qatar) or the IAD-Addis Ababa GSA awarded to United (Flown by Ethiopian). I guess we're all good as long as it's goes to one of the 3 oligopoly alliances?

Hold on a minute here. The big difference was a US Flagged airline was already serving Dubai, no code share was needed. Routes US Flagged airlines don't serve then a code share would be appropriate for a GSA contract.

Should've, could've, would've. Yes, ALPA has made mistakes in the past. Maybe they have learned from them to make a lot of noise and put a lot of resources into these modern day 'scope' issues.

That sounds like a crew room rumor.

No, it is part of preliminary plans currently being pitched along with a few others. Our mayor is quite the visionary and has quite a few things floating around his head, but getting those things to come to fruition is another matter. They have posted quite a few positions that will help foster this further development of the airport. If they can convince people to work with him, that is quite a different thing. The only development currently approved and with final approvals in the works from the FAA is a new airport hotel that will be attached to the International Terminal.

From the article:

2017 is a peak year for the plan with nearly $1 billion of work expected to be underway, including parking deck construction, five new gates on Concourse T, terminal modernization and preparations for a new 10-gate Concourse G.

God damn impressive.

And CLT just broke ground on the new control tower.

Difference is, like all things CLT it'll be delayed another four years.
