Learn something new every day...I never knew some hotels pay by the room. I'm sure it's not widely discussed for obvious reasons,but wow.

Yes, not proud of the industry all of my background is in until this career change. Ethics were questionable. Pay by the room can be a good thing, if done properly. An efficient housekeeper who does a great job can actually make a lot of money. The problem is that most of these programs don't have housekeepers clock in and out, so if they have to work over eight hours, which a lot do to complete all of their rooms, they aren't being properly compensated for that. Makes you think twice about putting up a do not disturb sign simply because you think you are going to make it easier for the housekeeper...because in that model, they aren't getting paid for that room and are having to pick up another room or being shorted rooms. This isn't all hotels, but a lot of them. Sad but true.
