It's not.
Remember, we were sold the "one thousand hours of PIC turbine at ALL COSTS!!!1!" for the last decade, but it's not a reliable metric and with the traditional flow of a couple years in the right seat followed by a couple years in the left not working so well, there are a lot of sharp cats in the right seat that wouldn't even be on your radar scope for another six or seven years if the industry continued to use 1000 PIC turbine as a gateway.
So you're in the left seat. Congrats. Are you "done" or have you sought leadership opportunities.or are you just showing up to work and doing the minimum?
If you've been in the left seat for a significant period of time, there better be some 'check airman', 'instructor', 'safety', "something" there. I'd say a good percentage of people my friend has talked to has at least some union or operational leadership.
Some guys are like "Well I have six kids, no time, my wife's got a third eyeball in the middle of her forehead and I don't have time" — cool, however, what makes you an exceptional candidate other than your grid 'o flight time?
Opinions are my own, yadda yadda 'disclaimer' yadda.
