Emirates Catering

American Airlines made $6 billion last year and serves absolute crap in first class, not to mention nothing in coach. Emirates invests in their product, American, United, and Delta (OK, they do, but not at the same level) are much more about keeping the $$ they have and their stranglehold on the domestic market.

Everyone raves about their service, but all I ever see is the shills selling their first class service. What's it like in back of the buss coach? Because that's only what Joe Bagadonuts can afford.

Plus, no one can see how Emirates has built up a world wide hub/spoke system from their main hub. It's basically an ATL on steroids.

They'd better put pressure on their respective governments to rein in support for fundamentalist groups. All it'll take is one jihadi to pop a low level nuke or push Israel enough to let loose one of theirs, and no one will want to transit the Middle East for years to come.

I ride in Delta business class quite often. Their movie and music selection pales in comparison to Emirates. I've written them about the complete lack of known classic rock on the rock music selection. It seems like they only put the absolute cheapest stuff they can find. I mean not one known band in the history of rock, except Bush. No Eagles, no Pink Floyd, no Zeppelin, definitely no Ozzie, Metallica, Guns n Roses, Van Halen, etc, just total crap music. Compare that to Emirates which has the entire history of Eagles, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Queen, etc. Literally every album they ever made.

I don't really see why they would pay the fees to get all that music, most people have some sort of music player now a days and and it's just going to grow as the younger generation moves into the workforce.

Economy esp. on the whale is really good. Business on the "John Deere" with 2 - 3 - 2 is average.

I rode on EK in coach on the 777 from KWI to DXB. It was cramped no doubt. 10 abreast seating. But we did get a quick meal on the less than hour flight. And plenty of seat back entertainment options.

According to Seatguru, Emitates has 17/33 seating in Economy in the 777 and 17.5/34 in the A380. American Airlines is at 17/31, so the same width but worse pitch. Most 777s have gone to ten abreast seating, which will be uniformly awful. For wider seats, Airbus is the way to go as a passenger.

Cradle to Grave indentured servitude.

Not even close in the case of an Emirati cadet pilot. They have an incredibly generous package with little in terms of required service after training. I saw one of my sharper cadet students about 5 years after he finished training. He was leaving to go back into his original field, which was oil and gas (he was a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines).

Should they elect to stay at the airline they'll retire after 25 years of service on a 75% pension. The government also gives young Emiratis a plot of land and 500,000 Dirhams towards building their own house.

Why did he leave? Obviously it wasn't good enough to entice him to stay.

Good question and the answer is quite simple. Educated Emiratis can make more money and be home in bed every night in just about any other field they go into. That is the main reason the airline has so many expat pilots and other staff.

Well there ya go. Why on earth anybody would move out there to be treated like a second-class citizen is beyond me.

i rode on the A380 LAX-DXB in suites. Food selection was amazing, drink selection even better. I thought Singapore had better food than Emirates.
