American Hiring Sector Managers

Wonder if this is also to be translated as, "Heads up, Mainline's hiring," but I can't find anything. Must be time for musical chairs in DFDub.

Likely will go external but management wants it to go internal this time within the dispatch group. Not much interest for most dispatchers to move especially since the money in dispatch is better particularly with a JCBA looming. There is a reason this job recently has gone mostly external or to Eagle SOC managers.

I dont expect there to be any dispatch hiring anytime soon but the summer flying and increases in Europe and Asia might force their hands on that.

This posting as it relates to dispatch is a bit more complicated than it seems. At the moment, the LUS side of the house has a similar position known as the Airline Network Manager or ANM. One of the things being negotiated in the JCBA is whether this position is going to fall under the scope of the contract or not. (Translation: is it going to be Union or non Union?) Naturally the Union would like to negotiate this position into the agreement. That being said, based on what I have heard about the direction of the negotiations, I think there is a better chance than not that this position will end up non-union. One of the things the company may be trying to do by posting internal is trying to get some of the LUS people on the bridge to put in for the opening. Indeed one person already went over even before the move to the new building was made. It is unclear if anyone else will. That being said this is all up in the air as well.

As far as future dispatch openings go, I would disagree with Flagship on the hiring. I do think there will be hiring not long after a JCBA. The Legacy AA workload is insane, and the FAA is rumored to not be real happy about it. Also, the schedule is going to determine the staffing needs going forward, and depending on the number of hours that end up the JCBA, I could easily see at least two classes by years end. That being said, I doubt any movement will happen prior to a JCBA though, and when that will be reached is anyones guess.

I think management is hoping to avoid hiring by evening the workload between the two groups. Its been clear for a long time that L-AA needs a dozen or more desks open to reduce the workload. However, nothing has happened despite the Feds constantly threatening action.

I think an even greater issue at hand is what will the AA dispatcher job look like post JCBA. The L-AA dispatcher currently does the job of what three or four different job titles do on the L-US side. That will also determine staffing needs.

We need to see the schedule that comes with the JCBA as well. Will it be 194 or 219? That will change staffing needs.

The big thing is getting the JCBA done which is likely at best at least a month away if everything goes perfectly. Second is that management already knows what the staffing needs will be. I personally think it will be at least late fall or early next year before a new class gets hired if at all. Those "productivity" increases management wants from us doesnt necessarily bode well for future hiring.

It has come out that United has more dispatchers than American despite American being the larger airline. I don't see how hiring is avoided, the issue is what is the hiring needs going to be, because that will be based on the JCBA. Talking to a lot of people on the AA side, they share my view on this.

Its really tough to say. AA had one way of doing things, US had another way of doing things, and the guys running the show are NW people doing things the NW way.
