Hired at first 121 job!

Well, 10 years after I originally intended to do this, I finally have made the leap. Interviewed with Trans States in STL yesterday and was offered the job! The interview was a very positive experience.

I will receive the official offer letter once I call recruiting today with my chosen class date. Just trying to work around two remaining weddings I had booked to photograph with the old business.

Super excited! I don't think it's really sunk in yet. Trying to enjoy it - this is only what I have wanted to do since I was a teenager, and I'm finally, finally doing it.

I will still be doing some portrait work, absolutely. Unfortunately, weddings are impossible to book with a 121 schedule, since they book usually 9-12 months out from the wedding date.

You'd be surprised. Bid the days off, and if you don't get them off, looks like you might "sick" into a whole bunch more money than you'd have made on a three or four day trip.
 
You know. I never understood that part. Everyone became a pilot because they love to fly. But it seems like once they get to the airlines they do everything possible to not to fly. Sometimes bragging how little they flew for the year.

That's simple, when you're learning to fly your head is filled with all sorts of aviation fantasies and dreams...
Once you get to the airlines your head is filled with all sorts of aviation realities, and all sorts of daydreams of what to do on your time off. So, no matter how much a person may still be happy to be in aviation they almost always come to the understanding that it is not the most important thing n your life, it just allows you to support yourself while you participate in the things that are.

This can be said about many new careers, or career changes! I've worked so, so hard the past six years running my own business (and I've got many years in the corporate world). I'm coming into this with a lot of perspective.

Yup, there will always be a few that live their life focusing on career above all else and they're happy that way, the rest...they get over it.
