Take-off alternate?

Interesting at the different interpretations here. I didn't see this notam prohibiting diversions but rather as saying do not use for "planned" diversions or alternate. I also look at an air turnback as an emergency situation and therefore not planned. And if wx did not require a takeoff alternate, I would not list one. Thanks for indulging me...was just curious as to your thoughts.

but if you list it on the FP as TO ALT , wouldn't that be "planned" alternate ?

But it's not being planned as the TO alt. It's not being planned as anything other than your departure airport.

I would tend to disagree with this.

Obviously for an emergency all bets are off but for any other reason (other than weather as a T/O alternate will be listed) one can presume that we plan on coming back to the departure airport.

Ive never planned for anyone to divert. :p

Huh?

If no T/O alternate listed, don't we presume that we would go back to our departure airport if needed? Thus in theory one could say that is the plan.

Haha... Totally didn't follow you before. It's usually the obvious action in the event of an emergency or any issue that the PIC deems appropriate to execute an air turnback. I still don't see that as something planned, as I would not file the flight plan any differently. But I see where you're coming from. ;-)

I'm going to take perhaps is an over simplistic thought process for this issue. I cannot list this airport in any blank on the flat plan/release that has ATLN next to it. That's it. I've met the requirements of the NoTAM. If they airplane departed and had an issue and had to return, that was never planned. If another flight was overflying, had an serious issue, and this was nearest suitable... I'm going to send the plane there. Not a planned en route alternate but still going to use it.

Well comes down to when you plan to lose your engine or plan to have the onboard fire start.

I have, do it all the time. Kind of a standard procedure for us.
