Berry Aviation

See, I would very much like that lifestyle, but not rotor rated... Where are your guys OCONUS ops at? I know Kwaj, and I think I've heard one of your Metros going to PMDY, but other than that, I ain't sure.

The base for that contract is PKWA it's scheduled pax runs around the atoll there . They run to Wake Island too. Maybe some other destinations in that area as well not sure.

Are they still doing the Afghan ops in the Dorniers?

Pax operation. It's been many years since I was there, but I believe they flew kwaj to wake a couple times a week. Honolulu was a fuel stop.

So... how to you take pax over that much water in a metro?
The pax climb into the aircraft, strap on their seat belts and hate their life for the next 5 hours.

They're not flying vacationers, the flights are operated under a DoD contract, which I'm sure somewhere some how makes them exempt.

Had a buddy doing the Africa/Afghan work for Berry. He seemed to like it. Never had a bad thing to say about the company/pay/equipment.

From everything I heard while I was there the metros took military personnel / civi contractors from Kwaj to other islands around Kwaj, but nowhere did I hear of them flying 5 hours anywhere, only very short hops like the NZY - NUC hops out of north island. I would be very leery of taking a metro five hours over water regularly. The longest flight we did was from Arkansas to North Island when the planes came outta paint with full fuel no pax and my logbook shows 5.1 on that flight. We landed with enough fuel to go our short flight to SCI but not much farther. I do know they used ferry tanks to get them out to Kwaj but thats not a permanent configuration obviously.

You'd need exemptions from opspecs and FARs unless you were flying under public use and Army/AF rules like the contractors do in Afghanistan.

The Dornier contract in Afghan ended so they are back in San Marcos sitting on the ramp in limbo.

They don't fly pax to HNL in the metro. The only time a Berry metro would be in HNL is when it is being ferried to / from the mainland with fuel bladders in the cabin.
