Found the sun yesterday in the #pa31.

That place (Well, most of Alaska) has been on my list for quite some time. I blew the miles saved up on the credit card to get a PS4 because I fly for free now....but the first plan was to burn the miles on an Alaskan Cruise. You have any particular recommendations for an east coaster who's never been? PM if you want, I don't want to deter from the topic or whatever.
I am partial to the Southeastern part of the state. It's gorgeous. The Aleutians are cool, but hard to see.

It took a little preheating and some sweet talking for the oil to warm up, but I eventually broke the surly bonds of earth.
I needed up hand propping it on the way back, because of an alternator/battery issue. I'll figure that out later. View attachment 34203
Do you have an engine blanket? It takes me about 15 minutes to get the oil temp to 100f with my home made pre heater (dyer ducting and a whisper lite).

I stitched together surplus shelter half(s) and used a ducted forced air heater.

It takes about 30 minutes to get the oil to 100f.
Seems to work well.
I searched for a preheater, the one I found is an oil pan. They don't fit the Franklin cylinders.

So mine is fueled by something flammable instead of electricity, but same idea. The insulated engine blanket works really really well. After landing somewhere, I can pop that on right away and come back 6 hours later and still have a warm engine.

Bit more since I don't have a hangar.

I like the use of the truck to make electricity. That how mine looks in the summer, using the alternator to power the fuel pump to put mogas in.

Ha, there is all sorts of misleading info from my picture. I use a propane heater, and I just happened to be working on my truck at the same time. (The dealership wanted $350 to replace my idler pulley. I said F that, and spent $22 at auto zone and did it myself)

One issue with the shelter halves, is that there isn't an insulated layer like you have in a proper one, so it doesn't retain the heat as well. However I haven't flown somewhere and had to use it just yet.
