A man was arrested after authorities said he pointed a green laser at an aviation tower at the Daytona Beach International Airport Sunday night and at an American Airlines plane that was in the air.

Investigators said they questioned Gerardo Sanchez, 23, who was found walking in the area of Clyde Morris Boulevard and Aviation Parkway. Officers said Sanchez admitted to pointing the laser at the clouds in the general vicinity of the aircraft, and said the aircraft might have flown through the laser beam.

According to a release, Sanchez also said he pointed the laser toward the aviation tower several times.

An officer said he contacted the pilot and copilot of the American Airlines flight. One of the pilots said he was attempting to land when he was flashed in the eyes with a green laser.

The aircraft landed without incident.

Air traffic controllers said the laser flashed their eyes in the tower.

Sanchez was found with the laser in his pocket, officers said.

Officers said Sanchez told him that he saw an incoming aircraft "on short approach." The officer said he focused on the aviation lingo "short approach" and asked Sanchez if he was a pilot. The officer said Sanchez told him that he was attending ATP Flight School, studying to be a pilot.

Sanchez is charged with pointing a laser at a driver/pilot. Authorities said Sanchez is not a U.S. citizen.

I used to fly with one of the guys operating the AA flight. He was grumbling on FB after he got hit but pretty happy when they caught the guy.
 
I didn't even know mainline went to DAB. Wonder what commute is worse, PIT-PHL or DAB-[insert hub].

There was more than a few PSA guys who commuted from DAB or MLB to CLT. A couple of them have moved on to AAirways and still do that commute with very few complaints.
 
We caught a guy in Olympia the other night. Crew caught laser and went into an orbit searching with FLIR. Dude was beaming the helicopter not realizing they can pull all that GPS data off the sensor they were watching him with and record it.

Got back and pulled the tape, burned it to a CD, passed the GPS and grid coordinate and gave them a 3 meter spot on the ground that lined up with the house in the video (match Windows and garage against the neighbors).


Cops called us back after they arrested him and apparently the dude just cried like a little girl when they took him in for processing. What a stupid thing to spend a night or more in jail with dudes who think you look pretty for.

It's amazing how hard reality hits when your life has been spent in theory.
 
Incident occurred February 11, 2016 near Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (KFLG), Coconino County, Arizona

Police are investigating a report of a man shining a laser pointer at a Guardian Medical Transport helicopter near the Flagstaff Pulliam Airport.
According to the Flagstaff Police Department report, the helicopter was flying over the 2000 block of East Frontier Avenue at about 12:45 a.m. Thursday when the pilot noticed what looked like a green laser pointed at the aircraft. An individual in one of the nearby trailers had been contacted about a similar incident in the past. While police were questioning the residents, a man exited the trailer and admitted to shining a flashlight at the helicopter because he wanted to identify it, although he denied using a laser pointer.
Officers soon learned the man was experiencing delusions. The suspect claimed the helicopter flies over his home multiple times a day and often follows him. The suspect had previously been contacted by police for shooting flares at a helicopter.
FPD officers notified the Federal Aviation Administration about the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Another pilot and I were the catalyst to legislation in an adjoining state after "we" caught the perp.
