Typical cockpit dynamic during long transits

Wait lemme see if I can make the EFIS/autopilot do that thing again.
AM radio.
Ask center if they want me to switch to the next frequency before I get out of range of the current one and they forget about me.

I flew with this one guy who ran a timer, he did some kind of fuzzy math on when the sector should end and what the timer should be. Started calling on the radio after that.

Jesus Christ on a cracker, why would you want to make that much more work for yourself?

Go work for XOJET and find out.

One captain got tired of me just saying center when I made radio calls and he actually said "I want you to say the city name of the center you are calling."

WTF? Really?

That's when you do a bit of googling and start calling them by the sector name instead of the center name.

Or just tell him to work his own damn radios if your procedures aren't up to his standards.

Yeah, I'm all about captain's authority, but how about no...

Heck a lot of times I don't even say center...they know who they are.

Well I can feel the internet body slam coming on but you gotta remember one thing about XOJET.

You have to get a letter from the DB captain who is making your life miserable to upgrade...

I fly the same routes to the same 3 cities 90% of the time. About half the time they forget to switch us until they're fuzzy so I just call for my swap.

Was he a military trained pilot? Just curious here.

I don't do the fuzzy math part. But on a lot of our routes it is the same controller doing multiple sectors. At certain spots we just flip over to their new frequency.

I don't know yet how things will go at mainline, but at RAH it was:

"Ya got your stuff in anywhere?
"Heard from anybody?"
"Are you going to the upcoming job fair?"
Politics
Sports
Complaining about anything and everything

By the time I remember the frequency they gave me I forgot who I'm calling. Ends up more like "heeeeeyyyy... You... Citystate 411 level 350"

IMO the shorter, clearer and to the point a radio transmission the better.

The guys at the center know where they are...

A pilot. Asked him about the pictures from the moon or the space station. The space station and the moon landing were shot on a film set. The scariest part.. He was not yanking my chain.
I would tell him to jump in a lake. Seriously. On a calm morning, and get his eyes close to the water and actually see the curvature. Tricky part: He'll have to hold his breath with his mouth closed.

I get lectured on how date of hire is the only fair way to integrate. Or politics. Or how 30 years can't get them a single weekend or Holliday off.

If they're that old, his kids probably are adults with their own lives so weekends and holidays don't count as much anyway! :)

Haha I do this all the time. I wait a few seconds for the guy to key up so I can hear what he says
