Horizon

You didn't miss a decimal but you did misread the email. It says we need to cut 28% of the differential between us and Skywest, not total cost. That would be impossible.

Still, I think the pilots should say NO to any concessions whatsoever. I'm very disappointed that I've heard people involved with the union who seem to agree with the company that we need to cut costs in order to help out the airline. It simply doesn't make sense when regionals are fighting over pilots.

Thanks for the correction. Upon re-reading I'm gaining a better understanding. That's what I get for not paying enough attention. Man, is that thing poorly worded though.

And I completely agree with you. In 2012, the first quarter profit was 24 million. In 2013, it was 44 million. In 2014 it was 94 million, and this year it was 149 million.

It seems to me that costs are at a reasonable level...

Correction: I attended a "town hall" meeting today. It is 28% of total cost, not of the cost differential. I was right the first time.

Unrelated: is it normal to never, ever get called while on reserve? Do things pick up near the holidays? I'm starting to worry I'll forget how to fly.

Where are you getting these numbers? Horizon's numbers aren't broken out on the 10-Q for ALK.

Those aren't QX's numbers, they're AAG's numbers. QX's numbers are irrelevant, as AAG controls both the income and expenditures for QX. One organization, 3 shells in the game.
How is that even possible?
Anything's possible... but in my humble opinion this falls into the "when pigs fly" category.

That's outstanding news. I hope my reserve experience is the same.

Well...that was sorta my point. The numbers you quoted didn't align with the 10-Q I was reading, but maybe I missed something....

Well, in that case I'm not sure.

Edit... I just looked up the 10-Q for 1Q 2015... the 149 million number is listed under "net income." I'm not sure which numbers you were looking at?

Basically, no one knows what's going on here, aside from the fact that negotiations are probably still going on.

The initial plan was for us to have voted on something by now, but since both the pilots and FA's greeted the "concessions or downsize" threats with a giant middle finger, those plans keep being pushed back, and the last we heard was that the jet flying would get awarded some time in early 2016.

Since the industry trend is clearly shifting towards higher first year pay and Alaska decided to spend $43 million on sponsoring a football stadium and $1.1 billion on a stock buyback while demanding concessions from QX (and posting record profits) the pilots and flight attendants generally view the current "commit to compete" propaganda as a load of BS, and it seems really unlikely either group will vote for any kind of concessions if a TA does show up.
