A regional pilot's Christmas

One of the many great lessons I learned while missing many holidays, birthdays, etc while in the military:

Ultimately it is friends and family, and the spirit of the season that is most important. The 25th is just a day.
It isn't the emphasis that I put on the day, rather the emphasis friends and family who plan their lives around Christmas break and what not.

Yep, I was pretty damn happy to be able to have Thanksgiving only a day late and Christmas 2 days early this year. Whatever day was on the calendar didn't matter.

Just to provide hope and contrast......been flying corporate part 91 for 18 years and have been home for every Christmas. I last flew December 20 and am not scheduled to fly until January 3. Not vacation either, just nothing scheduled. Flew 200 hours this year, making six figures, Christmas bonus check, and Christmas cash from the CEO.

Do your best to get OUT of the regionals. It's not all bad out there!

Sitting in the crashpad, long call reserve. Just had pad Thai, watched Rent and now I'm binging futurama.

I guess worse things have happened.

If you're (I'm assuming) sitting reserve in the same base I'm sitting reserve, I have a car and I'm sure there's a Chinese Buffet that's open somewhere to be found :P

I had a bad case of the runs for the first two days of the pairing, called in well and was told that they didn't need me to sit reserve, and terminated the call as quickly as was possible.

BIG DEAL i spent my first Christmas in the tower at RAF Bentwaters hiding under the console trying to ignore the UFO that was hovering over the Rendlesham Forest................................................................... Or I was passed out drunk in a puddle of my own vomit in the day room, memorys been fading lately!!!!!!!!!!!

Den? I'm off to Bozeman to bring an airplane back empty and then sit ready until 730 tonight, if after that you're still interested then yeah!

Ah damn, I just assumed you were committed to the new hire purgatory that is ORD. :P

I'm lodging by KORF doing the same as Chrisreedrules, even down to the matter of drinking Emergen-C, haha. If anyone should be around with not much to do, I am down for a meet-up.

Sitting in my hotel room chugging apple cider vinegar mixed with emergen-c and eating cold pizza. Someone down the hall is partying pretty loud and hotel staff could honestly care less. I think at this point I don't care anymore either. I'm watching ww2 in color on Netflix and taking turns staring into my flashlight with one eye closed at a time. I hope that the flight attendant I have tomorrow isn't fresh off of IOE and that someone getting up to use the bathroom while we are taxiing does not constitute a pushing of the call button in a manner that would indicate a real emergency. Off to bed, I have to be up stupid early. Goodnight JC, may sugarplums and gingerbread cookies go jumping through your dreams. Merry Christmas.
Just think, if you were in KSHV, you and crew would be hanging out with me and my family, eating good food, talking about the woes of the world, fishing, and generally enjoying the day! Sorry, maybe next year....

There is a 98% chance those that wrecked a month of flying in order to have the 25th off are, about 4:36pm, googling "Open bars near me +Christmas"

Come on, admit it! :)

Bingo. I could take it or leave it with this "family and loved ones" thing.
