Is it true?

It seems... better than when I first used it, but the battery is atrocious. I can have it at a full charge, turn it completely off, and in a day or two it's totally dead when I go to turn it on. I know leaving things like this on a charger constantly doesn't help long term battery life, but what choice do you have as a reserve other than run the risk of being called and this thing is dead? Other random buggy things require you to power it down and power it up.. a lot, it seems like some people have worse luck with it than others. The battery thing is my biggest issue.

In my 2 weeks of limited use, I can't say the battery gave me much grief. I was basically using it occasionally for charts and more frequently for Netflix (those forward facing speakers are actually quite a lot nicer than the iPad's mystifying side-facing speakers).

I'd also heard tales from the training department of people running into various QC issues like external buttons that failed after just a few months, but those are just rumors to me.

We use a keyboard/battery add on to extend battery life.

If you condition your main battery, you'll get most of the day out of using the Surface if you have it in airplane mode and put it in standby for a bit on longer legs when you really don't need it.

If I hook in the battery, it'll greatly extend the life of the unit. It folds behind like a standard iPad cover and fits great in the mount.

The only problem is that when you leave the keyboard connected and want to do the overnight charge, you have to go into battery properties (status?) and make sure it recognizes the keyboard/battery — sometimes you'll do the clicky clicky click click thing until it recognizes it.

I'll generally charge it when I get home and turn it off and then re-charge it again before leaving home for a trip.

If you run Flash on it, stop. Flash sucks. I have it disabled on my macbook air and my battery goes for three to four days of use without charging.

I left mine once open on the map page, connected to a BadElf, with the keyboard attached for a 10 hour flight. Drained the keyboard, but only depleted the main battery by 25% before we got to ACC. I got 99 problems with this thing, but the batteries aren't one.

Now, if I can just get it to load 8.2.1.

Did you explicitly follow the instructions? :)

Theoretically, if I were to acquire a Bad Elf, would I find it useful or just a short term "Ahh, that's nice"?
Theoretically, it really helps on the 10-9 page. Or so I've heard.

Anyone got their cellular connection working yet? I heard it was supposed to go live this week but I haven't had any luck with that yet

Does the surface have 3g lte ability? There should be a way to download flight releases on to ipads/surfaces and use them instead of printing out these 20 page releases.

All my previous experience with releases before I actually flew 121 was dot matrix printers and a release long enough to double as a red carpet. The first time I printed a release here I was like "..... it's done? Did it run out of paper or something?"
