Badges

Ord tsa informed me all company badges without crew on them are no longer accepted at security. #Annoyed.
Thoughts?

Go through regular passenger security. It's no big deal.

Was this an isolated incident or are we done with crew and employee line at ORD for good?
Was probably just some TSA "officer" making up his own rules... I used mine no problem. I don't care what I have to use, as long as I can use the crew/employee line.

I had the same issue with a non crew employee badge at ORD 6 years ago. Not a new thing.

Definitely not a new thing as I have encountered the same situations when I was with OO from 2010 to 2012 as an agent at the airport. Unless you are traveling from your home airport seeing the same people it is a crapshoot as to what ID or line you will be able to use. For the most part I was able to show my badge and cruise through the employee line where ever I was at. The only real issues I had were in DCA and PHL. The tsa agent in DCA looked at my badge and literally said "what is this? Who is SkyWest?" while the one in PHL said that it wasn't a valid ID. It amazes me that after going through multiple background checks and threat assessments just to get a SIDA or airline badge it's not good enough for them. It's gotten to the point it's almost easier just to show a passport for a domestic flight.

When you commute a lot it can make the difference between making flights and missing them, especially if an option falls through and you have to swap terminals.

That said, I can't wait to be done commuting!

Sign up for TSA Pre. Breeze right through the line, no waiting. For a bonus, sign up for Global Entry, get Pre for free. Since it's good for 5 years, $20/year is the best $100 spent for commuting/non rev.

Word, my personal best was 15 minutes from getting off the plane, clearing customs and getting back thru security at JFK to make my connecting flight.

This attitude will get us kicked out of cass, o it's no big deal I can nonrev!
Go work for another regional it's no big deal!
Let Big Bob at the end of the TSA line lick his lips and inform you I just need to check here while molesting your sheet. ITS NO BIG DEAL!

TSA pre-check is only useful if you are flying your own carrier with a boarding pass in hands.

It does not help those of us who offline Jumpseat on other carriers to let us through security. I have been in a situation before where I couldn't get on a Delta flight so I had to take a train to a completely different terminal to catch a AirTran flight departing soon. I had clear TSA all over again and they insisted I needed a boarding pass to be let through security. Many times I do not have time to stand in a 30 minute to hour line at the ticket counter to get a boarding pass from whoever I am offline jumpseating on.

As Dispatchers we need to protect our privilege to Jumpseat because if we don't...it will go away. At the pilot unions they actively have people that specifically protect their Jumpseat privileges and it would be nice to see this at our Dispatcher unions or other professional Dispatcher groups.

In most airports, TSA pre-check works better than the crew lanes. Just make a non rev listing on your own carrier, get past security, delete your non rev listing from your phone, and do whatever you want post security. It is a lot easier than playing the TSA game.

With the mergers, you can get a boarding pass for jumpseating prior to security for Spirit, JetBlue, DL, AA, SWA coded flights. If your airline doesn't serve the airport or the terminals aren't connected post security, this means you have a way to get through the TSA should they turn down your badge. Its a hassle in these cases but with a little pre-planning you can make it work.

TSA doesn't hire the smartest people and trains them poorly. Bad combination going on there. You can't win against government funded incompetence. Even pilots out of uniform have trouble with the TSA when jumpseating. Not every airport has KCM and not every pilot wants to wear their uniform every time they travel.

Pre-check saves you a lot of time and hassle in most situations.

You asked for my thoughts, I gave them. If you're going to get miffed at someone else's opinion, don't ask for it.

I cannot non rev list on my own carrier. No carrier I've ever worked for had a non rev listing option since they were supplemental or cargo haulers. If you work for SWA or JBU, and want to fly to a non served city can you use that method without incurring s cancel fee? Can I get. JUMPSEAT pass with pre✔️ Printed on it? Not sure if the airline Res systems can do that.

As I recall from a. Couple airline sago, we had crew in our badges, then the TSA (or somebody) came out and said on the pilots and flight attendants could have crew listed... Then we (World) started having all kinds of issues with ops reps and mechs not being allowed to the airplanes in othe countries. Then suddenly, the crew got expanded. Another example of how sown one who has no idea what actually happens out there but makes policies ....

Second, the dispatcher group should have access to KCM lines. It's essentially the same database as the CASS, so chances are you're already in it.

Lastly, if you're going to not be in KCM and have to do this ID issue, at the very least if you've got to get a printed JUMPSEAT pass from the ticket counter, the TSA should recognize that 'CASS' means you're a low risk traveler and you should have access to the pre check line. Seems a simple and logical policy to implement, so I assume it will never happen.

That is not true. When I OAL, I stop at the counter and obtain a "security document" and ask the agent if he/she can add my KTN and then voilà.....approved for Pre-Check. Just did it coming out of MHT today.

We aren't crew so there would be no reason to have it on there. If you do, consider yourself lucky and at some point, expect it to go away.
