121 Retirements

On the topic of job fairs, is there a site or something that has a schedule of upcoming fairs?
In continuing the thread drift, just type in "job fair" in the search engine on here and you're sure to find your answer, with a lot of good information to boot.

The big ones off the top of my head:
NGPA is 1/24 in PSP. WAI is 3/10 - 3/12 in BNA and OBAP is 4/27 in LAS.

Hope that helps!

It would be nice if being an ALPA Member was a requirement for 121 guys to make the transition to the ALPA represented career destination airlines.
Wouldn't that screw over the republic people? I get that you like alpa, I'm just saying. To me that's like flows, which I hate as well.

And before you bash apa or usapa I guarantee you I'm way more critical of them than you are.

Folks already have limited themselves by not completing their degree etc.

It would just be another benefit of membership.
Doesn't delta already have something, saying a certain percentage has to be from alpa or delta connection carriers?
What does having a degree have to do with anything? I doubt anyone without a degree really thinks they are competitive at all.

I'd agree with this.

I'm not sure what "enhanced hires" are, but the airlines you named are going to need a LOT of pilots over the next 10 years, and they will run out of flow throughs and military. If you're a regional CA, I'd bet your number will be called in the next 1-4 years. Keep updating your apps. If you want it to happen, it will happen.

By the way, I'm in a similar boat. 38 years old, been flying mostly Learjets in the 91/135 world for the last 11 years. Never flew 121, don't have any major internal hook ups.... Had my app in with SWA, FEX, and AA for a while. Finally got the call, and had my interview at SWA two weeks ago. If it can happen for me, it will happen for you. @GypsyPilot

The guy flying with me has had the exact same thing happen a few months ago. The only difference is that he's flying the "Lear Continental". He has an early January class date at SWA.

He went to no job fairs, had no internal recs, and did no professional interview prep.

Not sure about that on the job fairs,I have friends who have gone to several and still not heard anything...

Having done some recruiting at a major job fair I can say this much, people seem to forget that simply showing up to try and check a box alone won't get it done. The whole point is to show up and show us who you are so that you stand out from the thousands of other apps that all look a like. Oh and yes, everyone will usually think they did well because they had a "great conversation" and can't figure out why they haven't gotten a call after a few job fairs. Truth is you maybe you did but you didn't do anything spectacular to make yourself stand out anymore than anyone else who also showed up. I can say that in my experience, those who really stood out enough for me to remember them at the end of several very long days got the call...

On the flip side of the coin I was also the one looking for a job. After several job fairs and several "great conversations" I never heard a peep out of anyone. I went back to the drawing board, took a hard look at what I might have been doing wrong if anything and came back from the next major job fair with several interviews and subsequently several job offers.

Can you tell some stories or give some examples of what people can do to stand out?
