RIP US Airways jumpseat procedures

I loved AA's procedure when I was commuting. List via myidtravel.com while walking to the flight. That site didn't use to exist, and waiting on hold for 30+ mins was the norm.

There should be one site to list for all carriers, that would really help.

That's great if you know ahead of time and have a good connection and your phone is not acting up and you are not running from a flight on a different airline that you did not make.

Don't get me wrong, I'll do it when I can. But good example the other day going from BNA-DTW. I did not think my son or I would get on the DAL flight. One seat was left at the last second, so I sent him ahead.
SWA had a flight soon after. I called the 800 number while walking to the gate, but could not get an agent by the time I got to the gate. The SWA agents were the typical, "I'll do what I can to help even if we aren't making a dime off you" SWA agents. Told me to hang up my phone, they would take care of it.

What I've learned so far in this merger is that American can f'up a wet dream.

I wish you all the best of luck. American AAgents have never been jumpseat friendly. If I'm working the flight, I'll keep an eye out for you. I'll make sure I pull up the JetAAway app and see if there are any D6JUs listed and scan the gate area.

:( I was hoping this was going to go the other way. Technology making everything easier for us once again.

I've found 9/10 times I sweet talk even the most bitter gate agent, and they hook me up.

Gents, ask sincerely how their day is going, and it's amazing how often there is a seat in business class.

Just for people whose jumpseat committees didn't say anything:

Commuting on US Airways and American Airlines

US Airways: Beginning October 17, 2015, the jumpseat procedure aligns with American Airlines procedure. There will be no more walk up for jumpseating. Please pre-list and have the confirmation ready for the gate agent.

Listing procedures are as follows:

Website: myidtravel.com/myidlisting (no "www" required)

Employing Airline: (Your carrier here)

User: (case sensitive)

Password: (your carrier here)

American Airlines: There is an embargo on all non-rev travel from October 16-20 due to AA system changeover.

The Delta MEC Jumpseat Committee also suggests that pilots do not jumpseat on AA for the entire two-week period of October 13 – 26 to allow gate agents time to use the new computer system and clear any glitches. We understand that two weeks may not be possible for all the pilots; please be considerate of the gate agents as they learn the new system.

Because this falls during the un-NJC weekend, I figured I should pass along the memo from AA. It looks like it only affects D3 priority and lower, not necessarily jumpseaters.

Guest Pass (D3) embargo during PSS cutover

Why is there an embargo on guest pass (D3) travel during PSS cutover weekend?

Our Airport and Reservations teams have been undergoing extensive training to prepare for the cutover, and we are well prepared. We want to ensure those same customer-facing employees have the ability to focus solely on our paying customers throughout the cutover weekend.

Reducing travelers in the system who frequently are new to non-rev travel will help us in this goal. It will also help alleviate the additional stress guest pass riders sometimes encounter when they are using standby travel tickets for the first time (“What do you mean I can’t get on this flight, and what do you mean you can’t help me until you get the flight out on-time?!”)

How long will the embargo last?

This embargo will only run five days (Friday, Oct. 16 through Tuesday, Oct. 20).

Can a guest travel if he or she is traveling with an employee or retiree?

Yes. We will allow guest pass (D3) travel when a rider is accompanied by the employee or retiree. The same applies if the guest traveler is with another D2 (spouse, registered companion, domestic partner, etc.). To be clear, guest pass travelers board using the D3 boarding priority whether they are traveling with or without you.

Does the embargo apply to guest pass travel for all employees and retirees?

Yes. The embargo pertains to guest pass (D3) travel for all mainline and wholly owned regional employees and retirees.

Are we restricting other airlines (OALs) from traveling on American during PSS cutover?

No.

Can parents (D2Ps) travel during PSS cutover?

Yes.

How can I help out at PSS cutover?

Certainly minimizing non-rev travel that weekend, using the online tool (NRTP) instead of calling Reservations, and avoiding the “gate hover” to see if one will get on a flight are a few ways that come to mind. But beyond that, just saying thanks to our terrific Airport colleagues and the talented folks in Reservations who are working hard to prepare for cutover goes a long way.

So you do the "'Sup, baby? I know people be asking if your hair is real, I say it's real. Real fine!" and find it helpful?
65% of the time, it works all of the time.

And commuting sucks. Although, I've only really heard that. Of the 4+ years employed by a 121 carrier, I've only commuted 3 times for a trip. The other 99 millions times I've travelled was for personal/leisure/military (you want me at Ops to sign something that can otherwise wait until drill? Yessir, I'll be there at 8am Tomorrow! ... Hello Fedex, can I list?)

I think I can put up with any terrible AA (or other airline) gate agent after what happened last week:

Me"Hi, I'm on the standby list but I saw its full and would like to list for jump"
DGS Agent- "you're too late cutoff was five minutes ago"
M"Umm it's currently 45 minutes prior to departure"
DGS"Cut off is his 50 minutes"
M"Ok can I talk to your supervisor?"
DGS"ok I can list you"
-35 minutes later-
Me "I was wondering if I had been cleared yet?"
DGS "sir, I'll get to you when I get to you"
Me"Ummm ok but we're only a few minutes away from departure and you just announced the flight was full"
DGS"sir, I said I'll get to you, when I get to you, there are no seats available"
Me"ok can I talk to your supervisor?"
-DGS Agent prints 1P pass-
