Guest Pass (D3) embargo during PSS cutover
Why is there an embargo on guest pass (D3) travel during PSS cutover weekend?
Our Airport and Reservations teams have been undergoing extensive training to prepare for the cutover, and we are well prepared. We want to ensure those same customer-facing employees have the ability to focus solely on our paying customers throughout the cutover weekend.
Reducing travelers in the system who frequently are new to non-rev travel will help us in this goal. It will also help alleviate the additional stress guest pass riders sometimes encounter when they are using standby travel tickets for the first time (“What do you mean I can’t get on this flight, and what do you mean you can’t help me until you get the flight out on-time?!”)
How long will the embargo last?
This embargo will only run five days (Friday, Oct. 16 through Tuesday, Oct. 20).
Can a guest travel if he or she is traveling with an employee or retiree?
Yes. We will allow guest pass (D3) travel when a rider is accompanied by the employee or retiree. The same applies if the guest traveler is with another D2 (spouse, registered companion, domestic partner, etc.). To be clear, guest pass travelers board using the D3 boarding priority whether they are traveling with or without you.
Does the embargo apply to guest pass travel for all employees and retirees?
Yes. The embargo pertains to guest pass (D3) travel for all mainline and wholly owned regional employees and retirees.
Are we restricting other airlines (OALs) from traveling on American during PSS cutover?
No.
Can parents (D2Ps) travel during PSS cutover?
Yes.
How can I help out at PSS cutover?
Certainly minimizing non-rev travel that weekend, using the online tool (NRTP) instead of calling Reservations, and avoiding the “gate hover” to see if one will get on a flight are a few ways that come to mind. But beyond that, just saying thanks to our terrific Airport colleagues and the talented folks in Reservations who are working hard to prepare for cutover goes a long way.
