ExpressJet and SkyWest?

I thought that SkyWest had purchased ExpressJet and had merged the two companies into SkyWest.

However, I still see ExpressJet recruitment facebook posts all the time. Are they two different companies?

SkyWest, Inc. bought ExpressJet. Then, SkyWest, Inc. bought ASA. Then, SkyWest, Inc decided to merge ExpressJet and ASA and call the "new" airline SureJet. "Hilarity" insued. It was then decided to call the airline ExpressJet. So, in summary, SkyWest, Inc. is the parent of SkyWest & ExpressJet.

True story about SureJet?

Yes. Even the SkyWest pilot group collectively gagged when they announced the name. The idea lasted about a week, Then cooler heads prevailed and they ultimately kept the Express Jet name.

Two different airlines and pilot groups that both fall under the SkyWest Inc. umbrella.

Ummm... You really messed that up.
SkyWest purchased ASA in 2005.
Technically, ASA purchased Expressjet in 2010- the merger of the two was intended from the get go which is why SkyWest had ASA purchase Expressjet. I think they assumed merging the two pilot groups would not be a big deal. Silly rabbit.

New paint job.

"On November 22, 2011, both ExpressJet and Atlantic Southeast Airlines achieved a single operating certificate that allowed them to operate as one carrier."
