TransPac/Aerosim/Falcon/AF CFI job reviews?

Another career? No thanks.

@skypilot6 @cessnajockey454 Thanks for the info on TransPac. Good to know people do enjoy it there. Clearly the comments I've been hearing were biased.

@n156499000 @rockman2343@aol.com thanks for that info on CAE. I understand now, I did misread. They are still hiring for Phoenix as well on their website, so I'll at least have to apply. It says able to sign a 2 year contract though? New CFIs have to commit that long?

No they don't make you sign a contract unless they pay for your CFI, CFII or MEI. There are a few people who are getting a good portion of the flight training paid for because they worked for CAE and they signed a contract to stay for a while.

Have you looked at survey operators? Maybe just skip the CFI gig altogether.
I did but I won't compete with my low TT. I tried to look at many places outside of CFI but decided it's a good backup to have in case I get furloughed or something later on in my career. Rather get it when I'm young then not get it at all...

Thanks. I did reference your PM for help. I'll at least give it a shot and apply for the amount of money you guys make. A lot better then out here.

Air America doesn't require a minimum total time, and we often hire pilots with just a brand new commercial certificate, so you would probably have a good chance. We are hiring for the upcoming season right now but it might be a bit late to apply if you haven't already.

I have thought about some of the locations for various 135 SIC's, parachute jumpers, aerial survey flying, etc....

Flight instruction actually ended up being a better fit for me just so that I could become a better pilot. This post wasn't geared around where can I get my time the fastest way possible. I've already chose the instruction route, I just don't wanna fall in a trap that schools say their CFI's make good money and then find out "good money" is enough to pay rent for their location. Just trying to get some insight where CFI's are generally happy.

Thanks for the advice though, I appreciate it.

How was requesting time off per year at TPac? If anyone can remember. We're they huge no, or a little flexible about it?

I actually worked at both Aerosim in SFB and then later at TransPac (Chandler) location. My information is dated but to be honest I don't think you can do wrong with either one. I'm a Florida guy so I like Orlando better than Phoenix but Phoenix is pretty cool too. I had roommates in both cities and paid the same for rent. I will say that I liked having a salary at TransPac vs the hourly rate at Aerosim. When all your students go solo at the same time it made for some low paychecks for me at Aerosim but at TransPac I had that salary to back me up. I'd also say that the weather is better in Phoenix (flying conditions wise at least). My experience with both places was good mx, never forced to either fly a plane I didn't think was safe or sign off a student I didn't feel was safe to solo.

Ok so I accepted the Aerosim October 2nd class. Got a month to look over and study the material for the standz course. Any advise?

What was the interview like?

I'd just study the way you study best for the material. I have no idea how standz classes are but I imagine as long as you study the stuff you'll be fine? Try asking them?

Interview was straight forward, Why did you apply there, some basic scenario question on how you would handle certain situations with and including foreign students, emergencies, real basic Instrument question about alternants. Simple, and part 2 of the interview is 50 question test (foi, fia, instruments) and FTD session ( done the day before standz class).

Nothing to it.

50 questions test? did you went to sanford or was it online somehow?

I read they did that

Move out for standardization class and then take 2 more tests? Is that normal for flight schools? I'm sure they are easy but guess it's just the cautious side of my mind.

I taught at TPac and it was a fantastic CFI job. I flew a lot, but also had 2 days off every week, and they have company max duty times. The pay is steady, and it's very livable in Phx on the salary. Their maintenance is fantastic as well. Yeah, it's a lot of work and it's uniquely challenging to teach primarily foreign students. But overall it was a very good choice for me. It has been a few years since I was there, but I can't imagine it's changed too much. And while you already have 2 days off a week, they definitely work around days off if you really need them.

Thanks for the positive encouragement about TPac... I feel a lot better about them. I've got a DPE I'm gonna talk to tomorrow to see when I can get an xride. Initials out here in Dallas are so back logged, you submit your IACRA, and they fax you back a paper stating you can take it with a DPE. Otherwise I'd wait 3+ months for the FSDO lol. Not sure if it's like that anywhere else.

Amy told me there's an October 5th standardization class.....crossing my fingers I can get both xrides and hired by then. I'm very excited about them and really hoping they hire me.

I know, guess it works for them. Candidates should keep their current living arrangements on standby while they're at Aerosim doing their interview and standz/indoc until they're actually hired.

Good to know, thanks.

Are you also responsible for your own living situation during standz/indoc then if you aren't suggested to move out there?
