I don't know much about airlines but I have a appointment to speak with a advisor at Sheffield in Fort Lauder-dale. I'm african american and I have a slight speech impediment so I don't know if that's gonna be a deal breaker. This course is quick and stable and i seems like something I'll love, I have a little background in IT but I do mostly A/R A/P work now.

I'd like some opinions on if this is a good move at my age or am I better off going into nursing or something lol.

I'd like some quick training to get back on my feet. A degree with take me 3 years with the perquisites right now.

Hi, Mike

Learn and research as much as you can about airlines and dispatching, get a feel for what you're venturing into. Sheffield is great, I went there and it was a serious challenge, but, with a lot of studying and dedication, it can be done. Also, look at Jeppesen and iFOD, talk to them all and most importantly see what school you feel most comfortable with in regard to locality and financially.

Diversity is a great thing. Your race is a non-issue! I've worked and spoken to a pilot with a stutter. He was a captain and an accomplished adult in aviation, his disorder did not affect his career and I believe yours should not as well.

If you have an interest in dispatching and enjoy a challenging/rewarding job, go for it. I certainly enjoy it. I highly recommend that you take a look at the pinned thread started by MT. Lots of good info to start you search. Best of luck!

First off welcome! If you haven't already, I highly recommend reading through the sticky thread to get a feel for what lies ahead. 3Green is right race nor speech impediment have no bearing on the hiring process.

If you're going to be in the FLL area to speak with Sheffield, I know that NKS operations is in the area. Maybe you can talk to those folks about possibly getting a tour and sitting with a dispatcher for an hour or two. I know that there are a couple current employees on here that can better answer that than I can. Just a thought though.

Best of luck in your decisions

I'll look into a payment plan or something of that matter. Thanks for all the advice, I was advised it's 6 tough weeks of day and night studying.

thanks again.

It's the equivalent of drinking through a fire hose. Additionally, before going there I highly suggest getting your Dispatch written out of the way.
