Allegiant makes headlines

I'm hearing the NOTAM said "AD CLSD EXC SCHED CARRIERS" - FWIW

They fly scheduled flights into FAR. Not daily... But the airport knows what days they fly in and what time they arrive. Flights from SFB, LAX and IWA it looks like.

Sounds like the person who really should be under investigation is the one who I presume works in Airfield Ops and pushed that NOTAM out to OKC for processing.

They weren't scheduled to that AD though. It was diversion AD so the notam does apply to them. If I'm wrong please correct me people.

NOTAMs? Ain't nobody got time for that!

When your flight calls in to tell you AD CLSD:

That makes sense to me...

Are they running scheduled flights or schedule charter flights? That would make a big difference. Would make a great training example.

The crew declared emergency fuel when they were likely still above reserve. With that they could have made GFK. That sounds like a huge factor that the FAA will be looking at.

I don't think the "but we are a scheduled air carrier" argument is going to fly. First off, the assumption is that they were not scheduled to be there. Second, they were told the field was closed, held, then decided they didn't have enough gas and declared an emergency.

Of course, the biggest question the FAA is going to want answered is who screwed the pooch wrt launching with inadequate fuel for the mission?

AAY426 is the scheduled flight from LAS to FAR. I read that the flight was running 1 hour late. Had it been on time there would have been no issue.

Rumor has it that the VP of Flight Ops was in the left seat. All kinds of good gossip material with this one.

Quoted for truth...
Be sure to take the occasional glance at NOTAMS too. Don't know how much emphasis the examiner will put on them, but in the Real World they are like little land mines just waiting to blow you up. Become one with the NOTAM. Learn its every move. You'd be astonished how many highly experienced dispatchers have sent airplanes to airports with no runways or approaches.

Also, these two gems at the end of the article:

"Pilots can request additional fuel for flights in preparation for diversions due to bad weather or other unexpected conditions. But pilots say acquiring additional fuel often results in an argument with dispatchers and delays, and they instead take off with less fuel than they initially wanted.

The pilot said the two executives flew Flight 426 because the airline is short of qualified pilots."

I just want to clarify that some people here are saying that it was diverting TO Fargo, and that doesn't seem to be the case. Reports also indicate that they did NOT declare an emergency.

Are there no Allegiant DXers here?

Also tired of the media saying they had "3-4 minutes of fuel left."

I would suggest that if their are allegiant dispatchers here that they don't weigh in.
