ALPA and medical reform

Once again it has saved folks from certain medical conditions we have no way of knowing about.

That's only because they don't get a real medical attention. The FAA physical checks for very little serious illness or life threatening medical conditions.

It's crap, but par for the course for ALPA.

All removing the restrictions will do is allow the guys already flying to fly legally. Every small airport is filled with "Old Birds" who are out there flying without medicals already. The FAA doesn't have the manpower or desire to enforce the rules so why have the rules?

I think the issue is -- and this is why I asked the same question on APC -- that ALPA's letter opens with, "On behalf of the 52,000 pilots...." It sure makes it sound like the organization is speaking the opinion of all of its members, which makes it a more significant opinion when given to Congress.

ALPA does speak on behalf of its 52,000 members. That doesn't require a poll. ALPA's leaders are elected by the members in order to do the business of the members and speak on their behalf. That's how a republic works.

Not sure how I can make it clearer...oh wait...y'all don't have valid arguments and are just grasping at air.

High blood pressure=risk of heart disease.
Hypertension is not a disqualifier for a 3rd class. EKGs are not even done for 3rd class.

Yes, in fact, it is.

By itself hypertension is not DQ, only if it requires medication.

So I'll just "forget" to tell my AME about the Meds my cardiologist prescribed.

If you honestly believe that the above scenario doesn't happen all the time, I've got a bridge to sell you.

False. Your AME will not issue if you have hypertension that is not under control by medication. The limits are pretty high (150/95 I believe), but it will disqualify you. You people have no argument to justify this BS. Drop it.

If this was about keeping weekend, once a month flyers in the air, ok. Give them VFR and 4 seat max 150 KTS. I think just about everyone would support it.
I think it is crazy to open it up to VFR/IFR and 6K and up to 250 KTS.

Grasping at nothing...

You're talking out your ass on that one. Blood work is the number one way to determine good health. Checking ones blood pressure for heart disease is the equivalent of looking at a tire and assuming its pressure is good.

I'm not arguing for or against it. But I do see both sides spewing a bunch of B.S. to fit into an agenda.

I was shocked when I learned the urine sample wasn't used to test for drugs (legal and illegal) and matched up to the medications the patient reported.
