Luggage suggestions

Good info guys. I have a slightly OT question. When jump-seating, typically where do you end up storing your bag? On an RJ I'm sure it's a bit more of a challenge than on a narrow-body, or wide-body. Anyone have some info on how that works when commuting? I'll be joining the ranks of commuters very soon.

I bought the Luggageworks Stealth Aviator in January and have already had issues with it. Both back zipper handles have already been broken off and the handle has been replaced. The zippers I can deal with but the handle was a problem. It wouldn't fall down on its own after hitting the release tabs. That was a huge pain when one hand was holding something else and the handle wouldn't go down. Even the new handle stops about 2 inches from the bag when you try to drop it. I'm beginning to think the bag frame and/or handle tubes are not aligned correctly.

All-in-all though I'm still happy with the purchase and would buy it again. It takes abuse well from a commuting standpoint.

+1 for the LuggageWorks. My LW 22" (steal frame) is still going strong after 8 years. Treat it nicely and it will last you a lifetime. So far all I've done is replace the wheels once. It could use a little tune-up; but overall it's a great bag for the money.

As for the cooler, I'm also using an Aerocoast PRO cooler.

On an RJ it's easiest! Leave it on the jetway with everybody else's carry on.

On an Airbus there is room in the cockpit. Usually the 737 there is a closet up front they'll throw it in, except for Southwest.

MD80s, find an overhead unless the flight attendants will let you put it in their closet.

I'm asking for a ride in an E145 next week from IND to ORD. Really hoping I can beg them to put it my rollaboard in the closet because I only have about 30 minutes between flights in ORD.

If it's XJT there won't be any room in the closet. Not sure how eagle configures their 145's.

Most eagle crews put all 3 bags in the closet. Sometimes the FA puts their bag in the galley cubby's so you might get lucky but if all three are in the closet and you get a stickler for an FA you might be S.O.L.

I'm going to go in another direction and suggest a spinner, preferably hard-sided. Why? Well, moving a spinner around is far better for your back than dragging a roller behind you. It's also far better for dodging Grandma as you move through the terminal.

I love me a good spinner.. I wouldn't necessarily say they're good for your back, but....

Also need to get a good cooler for 3/4 day trips... Suggestions from the experienced are welcomed!

As far as luggage, I would highly recommend the luggage works stealth aviator. After traveling/commuting with mine over the past couple months and seeing the severe beating luggage takes on a daily basis, I wouldn't recommend anything else less robust. They are pricey, but buy it once, but it right.

Ebags off of amazon. I can carry 4 days worth of food. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Some drinks. I think it Is $40. That's one day per diem. I save a lot of money since I hardly eat on the road. My per diem covers my food expenses while I'm at work and off work. I buy good, quality foods too.

I switched from the LW bag to a Fūl hybrid rolling duffel. It's cheap and holds a lot of stuff.

Thanks to this thread, I just ordered LW Stealth AIR with side pockets.
Nice. When I start driving to work I'm going to get that one. For now the Travel Pro keeps me happy. I had qualms about how the lighter frame would hold up to commuting and didn't want to trash a $270 bag finding out.

My luggageworks stealth is going on three years old now. Seems to be holding up well. I have had one zipper tab come off but it is otherwise still in good shape. My only real issue is a wheel bearing. Been almost three years so I want 100% new wheels rather than just replacing the bearng. Problem is that their Customer Service is terrible. They don't answer their phones or reply to voicemails. I would just order them online but the last time I needed a replacement part they sent me the wrong part (handle mount for my flight case).

I split it with another guy. Just buy a set of wheels and bearings online. Cheaper and quality is much better than OEM. I think it worked out to $15 for the pair of wheels and bearings.

On a emb-145/135 if there's no room in the forward closet, I'll ask the FA if I can stow my rollaboard behind row 18/13B/C. It fits nicely in there and you don't have to wait for the rampers to unload the valet bags. Just pull out the cabin cleaning kit, lay your rollaboard flat under the B/C seat and then put the cleaning kit back on top of your bag.

If it's an emb-140 the rollaboard fits nicely inside the aft closet either side left or right closet behind the last row.

If it's an Md-80, and there is no more overhead space I'll ask the crew if I can put my bag in the forward cargo hold. After getting the okay I go down to the ramp and stow my bag in the crew bag stowage spot. The ramp usually unloads it at the destination and its waiting on the jetbridge for me with all the strollers.
